The problem with Turkey is the following: They are too many people with average low education level. That is a bad combination. Its like a demonstration. You give to the mazes what they want to hear and not the real world. Turks belive they are a superpower who cant control things. The reality is they're not. They're too many like Brazil is.. but they cannot control the decisions. They just have to obey as any other state in the area. Due to the average low level of education is easy to feed them the story of Ottoman legacy and the super duper power thing and the "very important role" Turkey plays in the world. I hope they will not find out they reality by seeing their country in the stone age after a mini war by a real superpower.

jealousy of living next to what was once the most powerful state in Europe and the Middle East... and the fact that they were repeatedly owned by them...
PS: Georgians dont have any problem with Turkey, nor does Iran and Syria anymore...

I dont think all balkanians hate Turkey. On the surface the Greeks hate them more, while e.g. ex-Yugos don't seem to have any particular problem doing business with them (i.e. selling weapons ) , however the viewing surveys of certain turkish serials played on Greek TV show that we greeks and turks share a lot, more than the turks share with the rest of balkanians. I think, there is a trend to either hyper-magnify the real size of Turkey, or on the other end, degrade Turkey to unreal low levels. The truth is that Turkey is a vast country, and that there is a lot of human potential, especially in the engineering/scientific/manufacturing sector, that we the Greeks (like basilmakedon) completely ignore.

I second that ^ My wife for the past couple weeks is glued to Antenna to watch " Thousand and One Nights ". During that time its Playstation time for me ;D I bolt out the door when that show starts, unless if Im watching my lil daughter That being said, I used to be the biggest hater of Turks and Turkey in general. Since then, I have been there many times and one of my best buddies is a Turk. I love being there, the ppl treat me great and I admire their patriotism for their country. I dont have a problem anymore with them at all. If anything, I hold our politicians responsible for their incompetence to defend our rights than I do the Turks for trying to secure theirs. Regarding their vast resources in Turkey. If they were more smarter and less nationalistic, I can honestly say they can become a world power like China. But they still have a lot of baggage that holds them down from becoming one. At least for Greece, we are only 12 million and in desperate need for a mentality overhaul. That is what is holding us down bigtime.

^ ok fair enough.
I accept that the China analogy was a little overboard. But I still think Turkey can make a big impact on the world stage. They have a lot of potential to be up there. Thats all.
