www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8845336Genetic history of the population of Puglia (southern Italy). Rickards O, Scano G, Martinez-Labarga C, Taraborelli T, Gruppioni G, De Stefano GF. Dipartimento di Biologia, Università Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy. AbstractNine-hundred and twenty-two individuals belonging to the five provinces of Puglia were typed for nine erythrocyte genetic markers (ACP1, ADA, AK1, ESD, GLO1, PGD, PGM1, PGM2, and SODA). Genetic heterogeneity within Puglia was investigated on the basis of allele frequencies of the above mentioned markers plus ABO*A, ABO*B, ABO*O, and RH*D, by the (chi 2 test and Rst statistic. The analyses revealed no differences at the provincial level. Furthermore, correspondence and genetic distance analyses were applied to look for a statistical difference within Puglia from different standpoints, as well as between Puglia, the rest of Italy and other European and Near and Middle Eastern populations whose genetic history is most likely related. Southern and central Italian, Greek and Aegean populations appeared very homogeneous and quite differentiated from the rest of Europe, both continental (including northern Italy) and south-eastern, stressing the major impact of the heavy Greek colonization on the genetic pools of the circum-Mediterranean people

It's obvious that ancient hellenic blood still survives in the veins of modern Greeks today...

I would say a good 75% of the Greek population can trace it's roots back to antiquity.

Puglia and Brindisi (which illyrian tribes lived there) are more close to Albanians. He et al. (2009)Puglia and Brindisi are most fairest and dinaric people in South Italy.

I would say a good 75% of the Greek population can trace it's roots back to antiquity. Serbs can trace their roots back to middle ages, (pre-1400 AD) Japanese can trace their roots back in antiquity (pre 0 AD) Greeks? Personally anything before 1800 is not adequately written down and registered anywhere. So, how exactly do you propose this tracing to be carried out? by genetic studies of foreigners? IMHO, we carry a lot of ancient hellenic blood, but the proof is not so straight forward and childish as is often presented.

I don't think anyone can really trace their roots back for hundreds of years besides if you are rich and live in some royal family(brits)

Juts like you carry a lot of Chicagoan ideas. It really doesn't matter we occupy the land of our forefathers we speak their language and we are here to keep their memory alive... if one wishes to enter into this foray ..they are most welcomed... Who the heck are you to make judgment on that? Do you speak the language of the Pelasgians?
