Hey guys,
I am in urgent need of some insight and advice.
I don't want to seem ignorant at all, so for those from Bosnia (serbs muslim and croat alike) do not take this wrong way.
I want to know how it is in Sarajevo, especially in regards to things like technoology. Here in serbia, I was impressed w the quick and easy access of wifi at almost every cafe, the cheap blackberry internet (bis) service, and other features that allowed me stay in contact with everyone in the US.
Is that the case for BiH? Especially East Sarajevo? I have a plan here w telenor for a wireless card and bis on my berry and the 3G network is fast and stable, and at the end of the day cheap.
Also, how is the Sarajevo as a city compared to Beograd and Novi Sad?
Also, is the airport in Sarajevo used by everyone?

All of Balkans is lagging behind in technology such as Telecommunication, Television and Internet except for Slovenia, they can barely even have an average internet speed of 1mbps let alone keeping up with the latest technology.

My experience is that in Macedonia, their Internet speeds were just as good if not better than in Australia. And cheaper too. Though I only got 3g network coverage in Croatia and Slovenia.

Actually you are right about this. I just found a site with the list of the world and the list of countries ranked in internet speed. Macedonia has the second fastest internet speed through out the former yugoslavia with Slovenia 1st, Croatia 3rd, Montenegro 4th, Serbia 5th and Bosnia last. www.speedtest.net/global.php#0

Global test is still viewing Serbia, Kosov and Montenegro as one country...and funny enough the top company is Albanian Does anyone know how do they calculate data on that site? On the global list Albania (and Italy too) is below Macedonia, but when checking each country data for us are higher than those of Macedonia, Serbia etc...

Kosovo is as much of a country as Republika Srpska is. ZIVJELA NEZAVISNA REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

I think it's the maximum speed available in the country. Their charts are wrong because if you click on Skopje, it shows that fastest plan you can get is 25.42mb/s by a company called Telesmart. I remember a few years ago, the Macedonian Government actually invested heavily in Internet infrastructure which could be why such a high speed service is possible. EDIT: Actually, maybe not, because I see some of the figures for other countries are all over the place. I have no idea how they measure it.

I cant believe that the ALP wants to spend 43 billion dollars on a National Broadband Network which is clearly a waste of bloody tax payers money but when you look at a country like Macedonia, Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro for example, they are not even spending 5% of that money yet they manage to achieve a high speed of internet downloads and uploads.

Yeah but Australia is huge. You could fit the entire Balkan region in Victoria alone.

Yeah but Australia is huge. You could fit the entire Balkan region in Victoria alone. Still it's too expensive and that is going to cost each person an additional $3,000 dollars in taxes per year and it is only going to raise up the cost of the internet per user/house hold. I don't understand whats wrong with the current minimum 8mbps on ADSL, 20mbps on ADSL+2 and 30MBPS on Cable. Also we can even rise up the internet speed without the need of a NBN, there are plenty of alternatives which are much cheaper that only requires the upgrade of the existing internet infrastructure that can allow raising up the internet speed upto a 100MBPS. Have a look at this link nbnoptions.org/Alternatives.aspx and nbnoptions.org/ and it will explain it all about cheaper ways of improving the Australian infrastructure without the need of spending 43 billion dollars. It would be great for a NBN but who is going to pay that much money for it??? I am definently happy with my ADSL+2 20mbps as it is, i dont want a 100mbps that will cost me double or tripple than what i am already paying for an internet right now.

Don't get me wrong, I mostly agree with you Stanko. But, you can see why what they are proposing will cost so much.

Don't get me wrong, I mostly agree with you Stanko. But, you can see why what they are proposing will cost so much. True, i 100% agree that we need to improve the internet infrastructure and upgrade it in Australia but 43 billion dollars sounds like alot of money which it can be used in upgrading the hospitals, improving the health care systems, improving and building new infrastructures such as roads, improving the streets, building new high ways, freeways and motor ways, improving and investing in the education systems, using that money on improving the police and other law enforcements in Australia, with all of that 43 billion dollars so much more can be done in Australia, especially some of that money can be used in paying of our foreign debts to the IMF and etc.. Internet is important but so are alot of the things too. I just don't agree on Labors plan for a NBN, especially if they are proposing a mandatory internet filter which is a big contradictory to the NBN seeing as all of the filters that were tested in a trial has shown that it slows down the internet from 23 to upto 80% of the internet speed. The Australian Labor Party has also refused to allow the treasury to do a cost benefit analysis and to do a feasibility report, all of these things offered to the ALP were free of charge but they refuse to do a feasibility and a cost benefit analysis. The NBN may sound great in theory but it is so much more costly and the NBN, the economy will loose out on more then 30 billion dollars, i just think there are plenty of alternative ways of improving the internet speed, download and upload speed without the need of completely replacing the entire internet infrastructure and technology. The technology is always improving and getting better and under the current internet infrastructure we can easily increase the speed of the internet without the need for an NBN. If all ISP's were to band together along with the government, a deal could be established on a joint project in introducing a fiber optic network for all ISP's to share it on, it would definently reduce the cost by almost half, if not more then half, the cost of the internet for a ADSL plan and ADSL+2 20mbps in cost would decrease in making ways for a 50mbps or 100 mbps plans. But for a government to spend 43 billion dollars on a NBN is too expensive and nobody wants to pay that much, that is 3,000 dollars per year per person for the internet. It's too expensive lol.

Or maybe you are saying we are Serbs again LMFAO! Get serious we have Turkish blood in us and we will never say we are Serbs! Just like you cunts in Bosnia won't say you are Bosnian, which you are you are born there! Also Sarajevo was voted 43th most beautiful city in the World! While Beograd was like 180 something LMFAO! BOOOOM! Bitch your city is shite! And just so everyone else know this the next closest Balkan city was Zagreb which was ranked 143rd! So that shows a huge ass gap between how greater we our and how better we are!

There was no presence of Turks in the Balkans before the Ottoman Empire so 500 years ago Bosnia was only a christian land, land of Serbs and Croats. So GTFO of Bosnia and out of the Balkans and go back to Turkey then!
