Did Toska tell you he visited me and we went to lunch and shook hands and had an overall good time? Kanaris, I think it was cool that you guys met and had lunch... this forum cannot be taken seriously at any time and to hate people based on it is a huge mistake. Sure we have some strange disagreements but in reality the only place we really run into these strange disagreements is on the internet. Most Albanians you meet on the street are nice people and far too polite to begin a conversation about how Albanians gave Greece it's independence. Especially since that could not be further from the truth. In any matter, I know how Greeks can be and I can see why we piss people off sometimes. We are too damn proud and I can imagine that is annoying to non Greeks.

Kanaris i cant hate you if you don't hate me, so someone started that hatred. But the disagreements are mate so we can find agreements. Every single on of us here would have a nice time discussing face to face with someone else no matter if he is Greek,Albanian,Turk,Serb or any other nationality.

You should try to be more cosmopolitan and like every nation, you somehow should start pointing fingers at yourself. We have to be self criticized sometimes.

I think Canaris is an exception. He doesnt come off as all that "Greek" to me. A few weeks ago I ran into my Turkish friend on campus and walked up to him while he was speaking to someone. He then introduced me to a Grad student who had transferred from the University of Salonika. Honestly, the meeting between the two of us after he introduced us was cold to say the least.
I have come to realize that that is a real Greek. The American assimilated Greeks I have run into in the past did not give me the kind of stare she gave. Maybe she felt uncomfortable also, I dunno. I dont care. I have realized since then that that is the common Greek. I know it is because thats the very same awkwardness I have received from most of the Greeks in Corfu when they found out I was Albanian.
Its fine. I welcome it. Its not like I spend my day thinking about it or anything. I just found it fun to notice.
Honestly, I have had better reception with Serbs in Montreal. They welcomed my Albanianness with open arms and we have fought a war.

Actually the more I visit internet forums, the more I dislike Albanians lol. Not exactly this forum (most of the Albs here are cool), but other forums make me want to change my identity at time.

Toskali, most Albanians and Serbs who live outside balkans don't really care what are they, I met a couple of Serbian people back in Swiss when i was at my uncle, they welcomed me very well, they seemed nice people, they also spend so much time with my uncle since he is speaking very well serbian as he has worked in Belgrade when he was young. They had barbecue every weekend. But the Greeks that live out of balkans like USA are a bit colder not to Albanians but to everyone, i met some when i was at my other uncle in Wisconsin, they seemed nice but didn't liked very much to discuss.

I know it is because thats the very same awkwardness I have received from most of the Greeks in Corfu when they found out I was Albanian. It was not awkwardness(btw what barbarian language is that english... ugly words), it was that the Corfiotes were struggling to hold themselves from laughing when they heard that you are an "Alvanos touristas".

in my opinion a lot of times is a question of personality, the fact that they a particular nationality coupled with an a$$hole personality just enhances ur feelings of dislike for someone, we tend to pigeonhole people when we see certain types of behaviour and associate that with their nationality and that leads to inevitable stereotype, sometimes someone is just a prick and that's got nothing to do with where they are from,
take patrinos for example, being greek is probably like the fifth thing that's wrong with him, haha

Yea, barbarian, the language in which more books are published a year than all of Greek literature combined. The language in which 60-70% of science is written (and the other being German) not to mention the best records of history... is a barbarian language. Or so it is accused of being by the peasants of the EU.
Of all the EU countries, Greece has the lowest rate of publications a year and doesnt even come close to matching among the lowest countries with translations per annum (Spain), nevermind the Brits and the Germans, or the French. I dunno, that study I read 6 years ago, perhaps the entrance of Bulgaria and Romania has given Greece some breathing space.
