then why is there a crisis?
the people that made money in greece are the farmers, they'd have money thrown at them by the govt and they hardly did any work, they'd barely scrape the surface of the land to show that the were growing crops and collect a fat load of cash by the govt, they were running all sorts of scams to fleece the funds designated by EU for agriculture,
people in the cities are not very rich, well they were living quite comfortably, especially public servants and office workers, but they still depended on salaries, they're not doing very well now

So what.... Europe has to take these people in? You sympathize with them because most probably you were in the same situation.I understand that.FYI,I never wanted to come to Canada...neither did my mother..she cried for a whole year. Her siblings that stayed and weathered the miserable 60's are now very rich. My parents didn't want to come to Sweden either. We had a house in Prishtina, both my parents had jobs, we were not rich but we lived OK. We had to leave because of political persecution. Whether it is political, economical or natural, ppl who migrate usually dont do so for the fun of it, but because of some need. I'm sure your family left because they were poor at the time, which is the same reason why many third world immigrants flee by "plastic boats", in search for a better life ,, what entitles you to deny them the possibilities you received? And I'm not saying Europe has to take these immigrants in ,, but I am saying it has a responsibility towards the poor nations of the world, if only by virtue of being fellow humans ,, but also because in some instances, it has directly contributed to third world misery or certain third world phenomena, like piracy in Somalia. I don't think taking in immigrants for all eternity is the answer, though not for the reasons you probably think the same thing. But simply because it doesn't deal with the root of the problem, namely the countries of origin and their perpetual poverty and misery that give rise to the never-ending waves of immigrants. If you wish to stop these waves, you need to remedy that issue ,, or else this will continue forever.

Frontex arrests Border initiative is working Greek border guards working with members of the European Union’s border monitoring agency Frontex arrested two suspected Turkish smugglers and 14 would-be migrants on Sunday night. The guards spotted the two boats crossing the River Evros using infrared cameras. According to officials, a team of 175 Frontex border guards has significantly curbed the influx of migrants in just three days since its mobilization at the Greek-Turkish border. www.ekathimerini.com/4dcgi/news/politics_1KathiLev&xml/&aspKath/politics.asp&fdate=09/11/2010
