Thank you macedonia for the variety store type history lesson, but if I wanted to read fairy tales I'd go to historyofmacedonia.org.
Tsar Simeon ruled between 893AD – 927AD, Tsar Samuil ruled between 997AD - 1014AD. Tsar Samuil was a ruler that comes after Tsar Simeon. Both were rulers of the same empire, ie. the First Bulgarian Empire.
The only reason why you may see references such as "Western Bulgarian Empire" is because by the time Tsar Samuil ascended to the throne, the East Roman Empire had already conquered most of the Eastern part of the First Bulgarian Empire.
It's funny, I keep hearing this.. but somehow people fail to understand that no one is trying to tell the present day Macedonians how to "feel" or what to identify as. If you see yourself as an ethnic Macedonian, than that's exactly what you are.. that's that. I don't see why people get angry when we post sources (non Bulgarian sources at that) that discuss the actual history of Macedonia and its people rather than some sort of "Ancient Macedonian" fairy tale.
We didn't write the books, the rest of the world did. Your forefathers identified as Bulgarians for the most part, as Albanians, as Greeks, as Serbs, as Turks.. but not as ethnic Macedonians. The whole concept of a Macedonian ethnicity is new. However, the fact that the ethnic Macedonian identity is the newest one in Europe doesn't make it any less real than any of the other ethnic identifies in Europe.
You are right about one thing though, Macedonians and Bulgarians have a shared history filled with common enemies. What's ours is yours, and what's yours is ours.. from a historic perspective that is.
but is is an
indisputable fact that in this period there was already formed
Bulgarian Empire, headed by King Simeon."

Let me be who i want to be, and you be yourself, don't search for advantages or disadvantages in the others, but in yourself , we, macedonians wanna be macedonians, live us choose alone, and let us leave together with you...
