This may be actually worse than Nagasaki. The amount of radiation that will most likely be exposed to the people may ruin their genetic offspring for quite some time. This same technique has been used widely across the Balkans, in more places than some.
Radiation is evil, not just because it's poison but because no one will notice the effects till later on.
