Among the Balkan groups I would say we Croats and some of the Albanians inherit the Med traits. You don't really have this in Macedonia do you : What is it about this video that Macedonian's don't have, but that Croat's and Albanians do? I don't get it.

^^ Nick , you need to read the thread to understand the context. I was unaware that klapa ( acapella) was popular in Macedonia. My emphasis was the Mediterranean aspect vis a vis the Oriental and Turkish aspect of culture which you Macedonians mostly have.

Prisojanin, your way of expression kindda reminds me of myself. lol Thanks bro, I'll take that as a compliment , for now . Nick , Genes are a separate matter but I do think you guys have an unusually high ratio of Asiatic genes. Culturally Macedonia is not much different than any other Orthodox Balkan country. Eastern and Oriental European .

Nick , I was pretty close to your country. Never actually been in Macedonia but I was in Bulgaria. If Macedonia is anything like Bulgaria then you guys have a lot of work to do. The country has the potential to be one of the gems of Europe in terms of natural and cultural beauty but you still need to cleanse yourselves of the old Soviet ways I think. Not that I'm from your country but I do take a little offense to people saying ' that area of th world is a shithole' and conjure up images like you'd see in the Sofia slums. The people there are good but lazy I think. They need to take pride in where they live.

...but I do think you guys have an unusually high ratio of Asiatic genes. I can't say I agree with this. I'm guessing you are basing this on Tose Proeski? Because no other Macedonian I can think of has an Asiatic look like him. He is actually Aromanian. Nick , I was pretty close to your country. Never actually been in Macedonia but I was in Bulgaria. The people there are good but lazy I think. They need to take pride in where they live. All in due time. We all know the country is still way behind but no more so than any other neighbouring country. If you think about it, its only in the last 4-5 years that Macedonia has had a chance to develop properly. Under Yugoslavia, nobody gave a damn about Macedonia. When Skopje was destroyed in the earthquake in 1963, no attention was given to rebuild it properly. Then there were all the wars in the region after Yugoslavia broke apart, and then some corrupt politicians for the first couple of terms. It's only now, in the last few years that Macedonia has been finally able to develop and it's developing immensely. Check out my Skopje 2014 thread to see what I mean. illyria.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=makedonijamacedonia&action=display&thread=29195I would say that by the end of this decade, (if there are no more wars) Macedonia will be a very nice place to visit, and not something to be embarrassed about.
