The possibility of a greco-turkish conflict is unfortunately very big-bigger than ever- even during the following October. This would be a very wrong period, because of the serious economic crisis in Greece.
So,the Cypriot republic is about to exploit its natural resources with Israeli assistance but Turkey threats that this might cause a new turkish invasion. The greek government has replied that this would be an attack against Greece or something like that.
The new element in this situation is the Israeli intervention.

cyprus-now.com/2011/09/07/turkey-ankaras-tough-talk-against-israel-also-aimed-at-cyprus/Turkey: Ankara’s Tough Talk Against Israel Also Aimed at Cyprus? With its relations in Israel in freefall, following the release of a United Nations report about last year’s Gaza flotilla, Turkey has increasingly been turning up the heat on its former ally. In particular, Ankara has promised that it will be increasing its naval patrols in the Eastern Mediterranean to show Israel its displeasure with the ongoing naval blockade of Gaza. But could these beefed up patrols (if they materialize) actually be aimed at flexing some muscle towards Cyprus? From Reuters: Some Turkish and Israeli commentators have suggested Turkey might use the feud with Israel to build up naval patrols in seas between the Jewish state and the divided island of Cyprus. Turkey has bitterly complained about recent Cypriot-Israeli energy deals. The presence of Turkish ships would have a menacing effect and could be seen as a provocation by neighboring Greece, also a NATO member. Noble Energy, a U.S. firm, is due to start exploratory drilling for natural gas off Cyprus in October despite warnings from Turkey against such concessions. Turkey and Cyprus have been at odds for decades over the ethnically split island, whose internationally recognized Greek Cypriot government is an EU member. Turkish Cypriots live in a breakaway state in northern Cyprus recognized only by Turkey. Asked about exploratory drilling for natural gas by Greek Cypriots, Egemen Bagis, Turkey’s European Union minister, told Turkish media last week: “It is for this (reason) that countries have warships. It is for this (reason) that we have equipment and we train our navies.”Greek Defense Minister Panos Beglitis, on an official visit to Israel on Tuesday, said: “We are at a time when calm must prevail on all sides in the region. This is not a time for conflicts and clashes.” Meanwhile, Turkey’s energy minister has also joined the fray, warning Cyprus about its gas exploration plans. From Hurriyet: Turkey’s energy minister on Tuesday said no one should attempt to test either the Turkish government or the country’s past, in reference to Greek Cyprus’ intentions to explore for natural resrouces under the eastern Mediterranean Sea.“That would be a risky move,” Minister Taner Yýldýz said during an interview on private channel CNNTürk while commenting on the Greek Cyrpiot decision regarding the East Mediterranean. Yýldýz’s comments were in response to pervious remarks by the Greek Cypriot foreign minister, who said, “Turkey would not dare to do anything.” Minister Yýldýz said no oil exploration could be conducted in the area, because the region’s borders remained undetermined and that Greek Cyprus’ idea to explore for oil and gas was akin to Turkey sending the Turkish Petroleum Corporation, or TPAO, to explore for oil in Thessalonica without striking any agreements. “I say this noting that we, too, could have rights in a Mediterranean whose exclusive economic zones and borders are as yet undetermined. They cannot conduct explorations just by signing deals with firms,” he said. www.eurasianet.org/node/64139

What's there to be said. A bunch of guys playing war games. I agree with Turkey's stand on Israel, but I have no opinion on the conflict in Cyprus. As for Romania taking part in the missile shield, I think it's great. We also make a small profit from it.

The turkish-isreali conflict ,unlike what people may want to believe, is not a "real" international crisis. Turkey is playing her political "war games" as anittas has nicely put it. The government is securing a great number of votes everytime turkey argues with israel, most of which are religious, conservative voters. As for the cyprus thing I thing turkey should not interfere and go on doing her own thing. A conflict with either greece or cyprus will only do more to ruin its international reputation among the western countries.

Addendum: these kind of conflicts are in the interest of the Greek state, on the political level, on the economical level, and for the Greek identity. Apart from its tourism industry, the selling of the idea that there is a Turkish threat against Greece is Greece's best export. Guys like Canaris can go to their Anglo-Saxon co-workers and clients and argue that providing economical and military support to Greece is vital for defending the craddle of European civilization against the Muslim instigator. So the German pays so he can enjoy his summer vacation in Greece without getting the evil eye from the Greek bartender. It also makes him feel good. We all have the urge to take care of someone, to protect. The Greek is the German's ophan child. One day, however, someone will yell that the Emperor has no clothes. And then ...

Who exactly will make this "small" profit you speak of? Are you in Romania? You expecting a cheque soon from the US Federal Reserve? USA has invested some money in upgrating some of our infrastructure: first in Constanta, where they hold a small base; now in southern Romania.
