I think I finally understand where their tune comes from; DardanellaOh sweet Dardanella I love your harem eyes. I'm a lucky fellow To capture such a prize. Oh Allah knows, my love for you And he tells you to be true Dardanella,Oh hear my sigh, My Oriental, Oh sweet Dardanella Prepare the wedding wine, There'll be one girl in my harem When you're mine. We'll build a tent Just like the children Of the Orient, Oh, sweet Dardanella My star of love divine en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dardanella

Apparently Dardania is the Illyrian name of the Kosovo region. ^Kosova's territory is only part of Dardania. Dardania also included part of northwest macedonia. In fact Shkup (skopje) was its main city.

Apparently Dardania is the Illyrian name of the Kosovo region. but what is the albanian name for the region? Dardania would be appropriate. What is the ancient macedonian name of Manastir (bitola).

It's not my intent to make any serbs' blood vessels pop but it extended northeast beyond the city of Nis.

Oh but you do care. A lot of things posted on here are based on delegitimizing Albanian history. "Ahhh those dirty shiptars are chechens. I remember the popular one about a decade ago, Azerbaijan. I wonder what the next flavor of the decade will be? Bahrain perhaps?

Heraklea Lyncestis - built by Philip II of Macedon, later named Monastiri by the Byzantines as many monastries were built their. It was known as Obitel/Bitola in Slavic which has the same meaning as Monastiri in Greek. Why do the shiptars call it Manastiri - ie., the same as the Turks??

^ and what about the Dardanelles of Asia Minor, Moe? According to Wikipedia (sorry for using this, I don't know much about Albanians): "The name Dardanelles derives from Dardania, an ancient land on the Asian shore of the strait which in turn takes its name from Dardanus, the mythical son of Zeus and Electra."I think all places called "Dardania" or anything similar to that is derived from "Dardanus". but what is the albanian name for the region? I'm not 100% sure, but according to wikipedia (sorry again) it's "Kosovë" or "Kosova".

I'm not 100% sure, but according to wikipedia (sorry again) it's "Kosovë" or "Kosova". Kosovo is a Serbian word. There is no Albanian name because they have recently populated the province; from your source (wiki) "Kosovo (Serbian: Косово, pronounced [ˈkɔsɔvɔ]) is the Serbian neuter possessive adjective of kos (кос) "blackbird",[23] an ellipsis for Kosovo Polje, 'blackbird field', the site of the 1389 Battle of Kosovo Field. The name of the field was applied to an Ottoman province created in 1864."

I know, Kosova is just the Albanian version of it. Like Beograd (Serbian) and Belgrade (English). Even though in english it would mean "white city". There's even a city in Russia called Belgorod, which means the same thing.

What Chento is saying is that the Serbs named it with a meaning, all other versions are just like "isms" of a foreign dialect from Kosovo (being the ORIGINAL name). Does Kosovo(a) have any meaning in the Albanian language?
In Serbian we also have a word "Kosava" the "S" is pronounced with the "sh" sound. It's the name of a type wind that is distinct in Belgrade.

It was majority Albanian at one time. As far as your ancient name for the city it does not prove continuity with present day fyromians.
