Residents of FYR Macedonia have the most similar DNA with Bulgarians and SerbsA six-year long DNA research of the Balkan peoples conducted by Skopje Forensics Medicine Institute has showed remarkable resemblance among them. “The analysis of the data has showed that residents of (FYR) Macedonia have the most similar DNA with Bulgarians and Serbs, Croats with Bosnian and Serbian population while Kosovo Albanians have the fewest similarities with the others,” says Forensics Medicine Institute’s Dr Zlatko Jakovski. The (FYR) Macedonian scientists received samples and data from most of the Balkan countries, except from Greece, who refused to take part in the project. All the other countries sent DNA analyses of the victims who had died in their territory to Skopje. www.balkans.com/open-news.php?uniquenumber=133236

The Greeks would be closer to the Albanians than to the rest of us.
But I wonder if we are closer to Greeks and Albanians or to Poles and Slovaks, etc.

fyrom geneticists are a joke thats probably why greeks did not participate. i love when they bring up classifications as "teutonic" lol
and i really didnt need any scientific proof to tell that croats and serbs are the most similar

fyrom geneticists are a joke thats probably why greeks did not participate. Considering how this is for forensic purposes, I seriously doubt they would allow politics to determine their results.

And you're right, it be interesting to see our simmiliarities with other Slavic nations.

But I wonder if we are closer to Greeks and Albanians or to Poles and Slovaks, etc. Going along the general theory that Illyrians=Albanians then yes Greeks and Albanians would be the closest relatives. As for the second part, while South Slavs have interbred with the local Paleo Balkan populations, and the poles and slovaks with Balts, Germans, Magyars, i would think that the slavs remain the closest to each other. then again a test would still be very interesting

i dont think southslavs and particularly bulgarians, macedonians and eastern serbs are more related to the northern slavs (poles, russians etc.) than to the romanians and the greeks. I believe I ve seen some reasearches (dont know how relieable) that point to the fact that romanians are very similar to the bulgarians and macedonians. I m not sure for western southslavs. of course serbs and croats unsurprisingly are very similar genetically. probably the slovenes are similar to the western slavs (czeck, slovak).
