BELGRADE — Serbian handball player Zarko Sesum has suffered eye injuries after being struck by a dart thrown from the crowd during Friday's European Championship semi-final against bitter rivals Croatia. "Someone threw a dart from the stands aimed at Ivano Balic and it hit Zarko Sesum. He's in hospital. We fear he'll lose his eye," Croatian team official Zlatko Skrinjar told AFP. "The atmosphere and the chants were detestable. They were talking about murders and so on. It's sad but expected," he added. Serbia qualified for the final of the competition for the first time in the nation's history following their 26-22 victory in Belgrade. Serbian police had stepped up security ahead of the clash following an attack by local hooligans on Croatian fans. www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5ifWONCGSoOJs7mStSlQKsFbhQDQg?docId=CNG.99f206b869282f2fe1dbd014880ce01c.2a1

Serbs attacked in Croatian townSPLIT -- Split police are searching for four men who forced their way into the Serbian Ethnic Minority Club and assaulted three Serbs last night. The incident took place at 22:00 CET, after a European Handball Championship semifinal match between Serbia and Croatia, the police released on Saturday. The attackers attacked the three Serbs who were celebrating their patron saint day St. Sava. They first hit one of the Serbs in the head and then started breaking computers, monitors, printers, etc. Aside from Predrag B., who did not seek medical help, nobody else was injured. www.b92.net/eng/news/region-article.php?yyyy=2012&mm=01&dd=28&nav_id=78518

I think the intention was to hurt the Croatian player but they missed and injured their own. A stupid and foolish act on the part of the Serbian fan. But Uz is right ( even though he's clearly tying to shift guilt here), the Croatian reaction was no better and innocent people end up getting hurt in this endless cycle of violence.
Grats to the Serb team though it's sad to see that your fans still hate us so much.

What a bunch of stupid idiots! That's bad for the nation & doesn't look good to the rest of the world. These hooligans need tougher punishment. All Serbs I've talked to about these acts that hooligans commit are very disgusted by their behaviour. Put these hooligans in slave labour.

Its really up to the authorities who they want to let into these games in the first place. If anything , blame them for allowing this to happen.

It makes no sense for you or I to feel guilty for what a few nuckle-heads decide to do. This whole false-guilt crap was being force-fed to every Serb around the world since the 90's, not so much in Serbia (mainly b/c the people there understand) but mainly amongst the diaspora. I felt it (being outside of Serbia), and I am sure many others' did to.

I read today that the Croat animals were singing Thompson songs in the court, during the game. In any proper country, they should be jailed for this. In Serbia of course they get away with it...

Uhh... I've seen Serbs in soccer matches chant war songs about killing Croatians and Bosnians and bringing portraits of Mladic and Karadzic to these matches. It's nothing new to see Balkan people bring politics into sporting events.

What's wrong with Mladic or Karadzic? They are innocent (until proven guilty). Also i never saw Serbs provoking Croats in their home. By saying "Serbs" in this context, i mean Orthodox Serbs, because there are many Muslim Serbs (Bosnians) and Catholic Serbs (Croat) as well.
I also heard that the croat laughable authorities enforced the mandatory use of subtitles in Serbian films/movies. It seems some people have bottomless complexes.

What's wrong with Mladic or Karadzic? They are innocent (until proven guilty). The fans that do this are purposly trying to provoke the opposing side and cause a conflict. Why else would you bring their pictures to a sporting event? Also i never saw Serbs provoking Croats in their home. Then you probably haven't seen many Croatian-Serbian matches ;D. By saying "Serbs" in this context, i mean Orthodox Serbs, because there are many Muslim Serbs (Bosnians) and Catholic Serbs (Croat) as well. Troll

I think people here are ignoring the fact that Tadic let a bunch of anti-Serbs (every single Croat is an anti-Serb unless proved otherwise on an individual basis) into Serbia and it provoked a hooligan which caused a Serb athlete to injure his eye.

^^^ man, recently i heard about the movie "Parada", some anti-war inter-yugo pro-gay crap, than in Novi Sad, they nearly enforced the local school authorities to extensively present/promote the movie to the kids.... Basically Tadic does as he is told.
