Charges - Economic data fraud during the period 2000 - 2001 wile he was Governor of the bank of Greece. Ironically he was appointed by troika as Greek PM. If Greece didn't became part of euro at the time wouldn't been able to get billions in cheap loans.

the issue are not the loans themselves, is the management of those loans or lack thereof, if you borrow and invest in a way that gives rise to a sustained economic growth that yelds profits and benefits then those loans are entirely justified and act as a source of wealth creation and job security, the problem was the rampant corruption and the entire rotten system which was easily exploited.

Well I don't know if any of you have been to Greece lately.... They have a new subway,airport,highways... there's more than 50 islands that have new airports and infrastructures... There's also a new trans Greece highway that runs from north to south... add that to the cost of hosting the Olympics plus the grossly over inflated defense budget and 500 billion isn't that much really..
Think about it how costly it is to administer a country made up of islands... every island needs a hospital, airport and roads leading to that airport ...no to mention schools.. How many airports, schools and hospitals does Portugal have?

i'm sorry but is that the responsability of german taxpayer to pay for all that? i do not get this sense of entitlement mike, why stop there, why not build a runway in every islander's backyard? see if you concentrate your resources in sectors of economy that generate wealth instead of wasting it away on dead places that give nothing back then that is bad management of funds, perhaps those islanders should migrate to urban areas and abandon those islands that offer no prospects, or they should be left to make their own living, sounds to me like an unsustainable business plan that one. the govt should have just made those investment organically and over time and not borrow a huge lump sum and dump it on projects that offer no return.

look, we can ramble on for days about that and truth be told the real reason of this mess is the fact that greek dovt was unable to collect enough tax revenue in order to pay back the debt, people simply exploited the systems left right and centre, half the blame has to go to the people themselves, i was shocked to hear my mate say that his friend is a heart surgeon and he would declare annually an income of less than 8 grand and would collect a govt check on the side....now this is a heart surgeon, how about all those farmers and the subsidies they used to collect? everyone was in on it

Of course it's not the Germany taxpayers responsibility... just pointing out where most of the money went... it's there if you look around...plus a few billion here and there that got lost in those transactions... Plus I am betting most of the construction work was done by outsiders..Most Greeks are good in just sitting in cafes playing backgammon...
