President Nikolić reacts to violence in Kosovo
Source: Beta, Tanjug
BELGRADE -- President Tomislav Nikolić said late on Friday that it was "important to end clashes in Kosovo and Metohija and calm down the people living there".
The Council for National Security met on Friday in an urgent session to discuss the situation in the province in the wake of violence which erupted when KFOR troops moved in to remove barricades in northern, Serb areas.
Nikolić said that “everybody received tasks to deal with within their respective jurisdiction":
“Everyone is talking with services they are cooperating with in this field, the Army with KFOR, and our government should have serious talks about this with EULEX and the UNMIK administration."
He further told state broadcaster Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) that "continuation of talks with Priština was the only way to finally see what has been agreed on (previously) and what the interim institutions in Priština have been doing beyond the scope of the agreements".
“Since we had the announcements about a massive removal of (Serbian license) plates from cars owned by citizens in the north of Kosovo today... we cannot sit still, nor can we be silent while witnessing what is taking place in Kosovo and Metohija,” Nikolić said.
The Serbian president said that all council members attended today's meeting and "all had a desire to tackle the task seriously".

Is that what they call a reaction? It's embarrassing. He's just grovelling but in a slightly different way than Tadic. I really hope he's got an ace up his sleeve and not just hoping that he can reason with the unreasonable.

Actually, when politicians wear red or blue tie, they want to express they are in charge of the situation. Just look at Obams in the first days of his presidency.

Interesting, I guess that would explain Milosevic and Seselj's attire. At some points they wear the exact same tie. but the red one was notorious throughout the trial.

No matter who the politician is, it is wide-spread idea about ties.

Kosovo Official Blames Serbian Police for Clashes in North
Senior Kosovo Albanian official says people working for the Serbian police shot at NATO peacekeepers in northern Kosovo last week.
A senior official in the northern Kosovo town of Mitrovica accused Serbia’s Interior Ministry of orchestrating attacks on NATO soldiers last Friday, and called on the NATO force in Kosovo, KFOR, to continue removing Serb roadblocks.
Two KFOR soldiers were wounded by gunshots last Friday in clashes with northern Serbs, during a roadblock removal operation aimed at improving freedom of movement. Four Kosovo Serbs were also injured during Friday’s protest.
Mitrovica’s deputy mayor, Riza Haziri, on Monday said people working for the Serbian police were behind the clashes.
“Those who shot at KFOR soldiers are people who work for MUP [Serbia’s Interior Ministry], which proves that all incidents in the north are incited by Belgrade,” Haziri said.
Last November, over 40 NATO peacekeepers were injured in clashes with Serbs when they tried to remove a roadblock on the road from Mitrovica to the Serbian border in Jarinje.
Northern Kosovo, which borders Serbia, has long been prone to bursts of violence. Its population, which is almost entirely comprised of Serbs, does not recognise Kosovo's independence or the ethnic Albanian-led government in Pristina.
Mitrovica’s Security Council, chaired by Haziri, meanwhile urged KFOR to continue removing road barricades in northern Kosovo, and restore freedom of movement for Kosovo Albanians who live in the Serb-dominated area.
“The barricades on roads in the north have made life harder for our citizens there. These roadblocks are unacceptable and the security structures should not hesitate to remove them and improve freedom of movement,” he said.
Roads in the Serb-run north have been blocked for months by locals protesting over the presence of Kosovo government police and customs on the contested border with Serbia.
Northern Serbs have erected dozens of barricades since July 25, blocking roads in reaction to a government police operation aimed at seizing border crossings in the north.
Kosovo’s Assembly Speaker, Jakup Krasniqi, welcomed KFOR’s initiative to start removing the roadblocks, but at the same time called on the authorities in Pristina to start talking to Serbs in the north.
“The institutions should talk to citizens and try to raise their quality of life, regardless of where they live. NATO’s move to remove barricades in the north is a positive sign, to guarantee freedom of movement of people and goods,” Krasniqi said.
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Belgrade has vowed never to recognize it, maintaining that Kosovo is still a province of Serbia.

and b/c Riza Haziri says so, it must be true. I wish he was right, that would mean Serbia is stepping up her game (since all in all Serbia does have justification to enter). Unfortunately I don't think the Serbian government has the cahones to pull off such a bold move.
