To look at, you might think Guyana is one of the most naturally beautiful places in the world, and you wouldn’t be wrong. Amazingly, even the name Guyana is indigenous for “Land of Many Waters.” However, there is a lot that makes it one of the unfriendliest places, especially when it comes to visiting tourists.
The problem? This South American country has a lot of social unrest and comes with some pretty high crime rates. While there is usually no advice against traveling to Guyana, the fact that there’s so much crime, high gang numbers, and erratic driving - which can end lives - usually means most tourists cross this one off the list.
