Slovenia ranks 15th in innovation

Slovenia left behind Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Greece.
In the innovation and technology ranking for 2006 in the countries of the EU, with the overall innovation index reaching 0.35, Slovenia ranked 15th in a report of the European Commission.
Slovenians are thus just below innovation average of the 25 members of the EU (without Romania and Bulgaria). Slovenia left behind 4 member sates of the EU15 (Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Greece). The leader in innovation is Sweden (0.73).
The overall innovation index (SII) is determined on the basis of 25 different indicators, such as number of patents, working active population with high/university education, overall investments in research and development, etc. (www.finance.si)
