Black Sea Trust Fund for Regional Cooperation to be launched in Bucharest October 18, 2007 RO The Black Sea Trust Fund (BST) for Regional Cooperation will be officially launched by the conference on 'Overcoming the Challenges of the Black Sea Region' to be held on Oct. 22-23 in the Romanian capital. The BST grants financing to local and national non-governmental organisations from the Black Sea region, to governmental entities, community groups, political institutions and other associations with a view to implementing three-pronged projects on civic participation, cross-border initiative and the East-East cooperation, a Tuesday release to Rompres says. The fund, to be based in Bucharest, is a 10-year-long initiative, having more than 30 million dollars in resources from The German Marshall Fund of the United States - a U.S. NGO operating in public policies and project funding. The launching of the BST will be attended by Black Sea state leaders, European and U.S. guests. Romanian President Traian Basescu is scheduled to deliver the opening address, alongside German Marshall Fund chairman Craig Kennedy. The initiative was put forward by The German Marshall Fund of the Unites States in partnership with The United States Agency for International Development, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the governments of Romania and Latvia.
