buna ziua Super Bozgor, can you speak arumani? learn arumani my language not romana understand? I agree, it's time for all Romanians to learn some basics of the Aromanian dialect. That would get and keep us closer. I imagine me in some balkan villages speeking Aromanian- some balkans esperanto! I don't know what language was teached in the interbelic Romanian sponsored schools, but if they choosed north Danube Romanian, it would be a cause of their failure. About the flag: I prefer the one with a hole in the middle!

I ve read info on the Aromanians in wikipedia. I have questions to the Romanians: Do you feel you are one people with the Aromanians? Why are they called Aromanians? The wikipedia says that A means non, so Aromanian means NON Roman. I thought they were supposed to have some roman blood in them? Why do u feel their number is decreasing? Why do u think they were sucsessfully assimilated in Greece? Do u think they originated from people diferent to the Romanians?

So, even if they dress like greeks, my perception is that they are much closer to us than Italians. I am among those who think we were forming one people in the first milenium (the romanised balkans). I don't know; anyway, they are called vlachs but they call themselves arumani. It's in greek that the prefix a means "non". It's a miracle they survived till now... You'll find more here: www.farsarotul.org/nl26_1.htm

Do you feel you are one people with the Aromanians? I feel at one with anyone who I see as my good friend. I am increasingly finding out that nationality of ethnic origin has nothing to do with it! This is a fairly stupid question (no offemce). I don't know what aromanian means, but I do doubt it means NON Romanians. I never heard that! Because they are assimilating. But I do not see this as a "crime" like many other people on this forum do. Right in order to answer this question you have to look back to the population exchanges after WW1. There were far more Aromanians then, and they each had a choice: either they can declare themselves Romanian or a minority in their country, pr greek (albanian, serb, bulgarian, etc...). About half felt they were Romanian, therefore they came to Romania, and they were settled in South Dobruja. The other half felt more connected to the country they were in, and as 4 generations passed since then, they slowly assimilated. The aromanians who came to Romania also had the misfortune of having to relocate again due to the Dobrujan population exchanges of 1940. Well Romanian is effectively the decendant of the Latin dialect which was spoken in the Balkans. As at one time, they probably spoke this everywhere in the Balkans (during Roman rule) it is quite possible that the people are unrelated, similarly to the way we speak English today. But I am only speculating, and frankly I don't think it is that important.

My question was if you feel like ONE nation. Maybe myquestion wasnt asked fair. Anyways, tnx for answering my questions. Vlaici, tnx to you too, you have always acted like a clever and cultural man and may I add well educated, as it is proven here again.

Why are they called Aromanians? The wikipedia says that A means non, so Aromanian means NON Roman. I thought they were supposed to have some roman blood in them? Hi Ioan, As Vlaici already pointed out, "a" means "negative" only in Greek, though a priori its role in "Aromanian" might not be evident. ;D Greeks also have a funny way of saying "No": "Ochi", where "ch" is pronounced as in "Vlach". "Aromanian" is an artificial term, based on the Aromanians' own name for themsevles: Armân. This is a modified form of the word "Roman", just like the Romanian "Rumân", now "Român". The Aromanian language has many instances where ancient words that started with certain consonants now have an inital "a" attached. Armân is one such example. Most Aromanians that now live in Albania, Greece and Macedonia do not feel a political connection to the Romanians. The Aromanian language is to Romanian roughly the way Bulgarian is to Serbian: there is a high degree of mutual intelligibility. Because Aromanians do not have their own "Aromanian" state, many linguists regard their language to be a dialect of Romanian.

Indeed. But you should only post this argument here, not on the Greek forum. Otherwise they might stop attacking the albanians and turn on us. ;D I say us, because I am 25% aromanian, too.

You'll find more here: www.farsarotul.org/nl26_1.htmWe are physiognomically closer to Italians, we are always tending much more to logic and metre than emotions unlike Greeks that actually in fact asphyxinantly tend more to collectivism mindset and emotions rather than logic and individuality. Aromanians have a robust degree of individuality that why they triumphed at many fields of science and governance. The metre and logic is implemented in Italians more apparently and distinctly in your cuisine as it's most strictly governed by certain rules. The Aromanian cuisine used to be the same, just more fat, meat and cheese heavy. Actually the most known Aromanian invention are the many pitas which they excel. We used to have pita di lapti (plagiarized by the Greeks to be called "galatopita" later), pita di prash, pita di curcubeta and many more. Even the Greek tyropita is a sad copycat of Aromanian cheese pie and has one filo dough unlike the Aromanian one that have more layers. We are more physiognomically close because we are noble-looking and we are actually brave, our braveness takes outer form. We are also having Alpine and Mediterrenean plus Dinarid components as Italians. Your Alpinid nature makes us more brothers than Greeks.
