------------------------- www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1705584,00.html?xid=rss-world TIME MAGAZINE Nationalism Rising in Serbia? Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 By DEJAN ANASTASIJEVIC/BELGRADE How much of its pride can a country allow to be punctured? Already punished by the effects of the 1999 Balkan war and international opprobrium, Serbia is in the middle of an election process that will reveal how much more national identity its citizens are willing to shed as they head into the future. Will they opt for an ultra-nationalist President willing to put up a struggle over Kosovo, the so-called historic heartland of the Serb nation that is now dominated by ethnic Albanians about to declare the province's independence? Or will they opt for a President who will not kick up too much of a fuss in order to smooth the country's long but lucrative journey into a European Union adamant that Kosovo be separated from Serbia? ------------------------- It seems that the main mouthpiece of the Western world TIME MAGAZINE thinks that shedding our national identity is key to 'heading into the fututre' where national identity ios presumably irrellevant so that we can all become a cultureless mass of consumers and workers plagued by drugs, obesity, divorce, STDs and controlled by TV, radio and excessive reliance on technology.
Of course - Serbs are being asked to shed their national identity. Albanians aren't. If the Western lifestyle is so great, you'd think they'd want their Albanian allies to blessed by its gifts first.

It sounds like the EU promise of a faster membership if kosovo is stripped away.

EU know they made a mistake in 1913 when they agreed Kosovo to be part of serbia and annaxed it from Albania that should have never happened they have realize this now, even my history teacher said this, so now they have to undo their mistake and fix it the way it should be, people never forget when they know they have been treated unfairly. IT WAS WRONG. the separate was meant to happen, it was only the matter of time.

It seems that the main mouthpiece of the Western world TIME MAGAZINE You mean this mouthpiece==? By DEJAN ANASTASIJEVIC/BELGRADE lolol!! It seems that the main mouthpiece of the Western world TIME MAGAZINE thinks that shedding our national identity is key to 'heading into the fututre' where national identity ios presumably irrellevant so that we can all become a cultureless mass of consumers and workers plagued by drugs, obesity, divorce, STDs and controlled by TV, radio and excessive reliance on technology. The communist robotchnik was so unique in communist serbia? lolol, grow up fool!! Of course - Serbs are being asked to shed their national identity. Albanians aren't. If the Western lifestyle is so great, you'd think they'd want their Albanian allies to blessed by its gifts first. Were the French/Germans/Brits/Italians/Bulgars/Rumanians asked to shed their national identity? lolol...Stupid, Serbs have no identity except to celebrate a 1389 'national' battle in Kosovo they lost. Now, everything about their existence is due mainly to the contribution of the combined cultures of peoples of the east and their Turkish transporters to their pathetically no culture/nothing authentically serbian nation. Today Serbs wake, sleep, breath, think, feel, taste and live in a world dominated by the Muslim East. meh, and serbs tried to wipe out all muslims in their nation. lolol...they'd have to kill every last Serb who exists because their existence is product of the influence and contribution of the Muslim Turkish empire.

Tripwire your text above sounds like an essay on idiocy, an explosive mix of hardcore stupidity and hatred. WEll, most learned it from the best...Serbs. btw, eat your heart out macedon! EU discreetly prepares Kosovo mission 29 January 2008, 00:14 CET (BRUSSELS) - EU foreign ministers on Monday worked quietly on sending a police mission to Kosovo, while not formally launching it so as not to jeopardise pro-European Serb President Boris Tadic's re-election hopes.
Eager to prepare for a declaration of independence in the breakaway Serbian province of Kosovo, expected some time after Sunday's run-off presidential vote, the EU ministers were "approving the modalities" of the mission, a high-ranking European diplomat said.
There was no mention of Kosovo during a press conference following the EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels, where the focus was on Serbia.
However EU foreign affairs chief Javier Solana told AFP the EU will be ready to give the formal green light for the mission "a few days" after the election.
Last month European leaders agreed that they would send a major police and civilian mission to Kosovo -- some 1,800 personnel in all -- to be deployed under a UN proposal to grant Kosovo "supervised independence" in the event that, as widely predicted, the province's leaders announce independence in the near future.
So far they have stopped short of issuing the operational go-ahead.
EU leaders hope Serbia's pro-European president Boris Tadic will be re-elected rather than watch ultranationalist Tomislav Nikolic carry Sunday's vote, and were keen not to fan nationalist flames by bringing the Kosovo issue so starkly back into the European spotlight.
The EU also threw a political lifeline Monday to Serbia's pro-European President Boris Tadic, offering to sign a cooperation deal after the election run-off which that is shaping up as a referendum on Europe.
The UN has run Kosovo since 1999, when a NATO bombing campaign drove out Belgrade's forces waging a brutal crackdown on independence-seeking ethnic Albanians who make up 90 percent of the population.
European diplomats believe Kosovo's leader will declare independence soon after the Serbian presidential vote.

Of course it is. The west (particularly America) is all about westenrizing/americanizing others. Serbia can either resist, give in or take a middle approach like the Japanese & Swiss have done.
