Holy sheeeeeet.
According to the news. The Greek national team is focused on the earthquake in Greece which was 6.5 on the scale and some of them have relatives in the area. Definitely not the best for their morale. But with what happened, the Euro is something secondary.

Greece will be out to prove that their Euro Cup victory in 2004 was fully deserved. They continue to be one of the most underrated teams in Europe and will try to use that to once again prove the doubters wrong. They had a huge letdown in World Cup qualifying and didn’t make the tournament which makes this Cup a chance for a revival. The Greeks led all nations in qualifying points and will look to use more of a defensive style in the Euro Cup and capitalize on their chances, which is exactly what they did in 2004 on their way to victory. I feel the Greeks will have to battle it out with Sweden for a place in the quarters. The game between the two nations in the opener will prove to be decisive and may result in who qualifies for the next round. If Greece prevails, they will be a very tough match-up for whoever they meet next. The text above was not written by kartadolofonos.

Why does the Greek team continually pass the ball around and not move forward!!! You cant score if your not shooting. Way too many mistakes. Kyrgiakos and Seitaridis at one point looked like they were holding there balls. Oh well... better luck against Russia. do or die time.

None of them suck, I would just expect that the defending champions would play like they are what they are. I mean, how do you lose to Sweden???

The Greek team played as lame as when we lost to Albania...
Dellas was the lamest.... he should just get the fak out..
They were passing the ball expecting the Swedes to come after them..but their plan failed miserably... no one came to get the ball...
Remember this is the same team that scored 25 goals during the qualifying period.
Only Turks can make comments since they are there..the rest should just shaddap....

turks sucked worst then Greece. about greek team, they definitely have establishet a standard for themselfs wich becomes their enemy on my view. i don't think they sucked. They seamed to exactly follow their trainers strategy getin sweeden off guard on counter attacs. It didn't work! The simple reason Greece it has no more the surprise element working on here side as in the last competition. They should change the strategy next matches all forward or they are out

I watched the game and the result didn't surprise me. The Greeks looked heavy in their play and had no plans on how to engage the Swedes in offensive play. The Swedish commentators on TV4 called the Greek team the worst team of Euro2008. It's a fast downfall from 2004.
The Greeks had momentum in 2004 and their bating strategy worked for the two weeks that the tournament lasted. They also had Lady Chance on their side, but to maintain consistency, a team needs innovation. The Greek team lacked these things and in addition to this, I didn't notice many young players with a promising future. I'm sorry to say this, but altough the Greeks won the tournament in 2004, not a single Greek name got stuck in my mind. Whatever was memorized, was easily forgotten.
The Greek team is 4 years older, but unfortunatelly, it wasn't renewed with young and promising players. That's not to say that this team can't create chances to score, but when you are put in the same group as Spain, Sweden, and Russia, you need to do well with Sweden and Russia; and hope for the best with Spain.
The Greek defense is not what it used to be, either. Romania invested in its defense in the game against France, but that's because they played against France.

Romania and its great defense will say bye bye soon, no need to worry about that.

Boring game. Either way I cheer for Italy. Greece does not have a chance if they play sweden like that. Russia is not a joke neither is Spain. Unless we are extremely lucky, like during 2004 Greece, the chances are that we will finish fourth.
