Dinkic is the first Serbian minister to get this reputable award that is traditionally given. Dinkic – world minister of finance in 2006 Author: E.B. | 22.10.2007 - 06:11 Serbia Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic has been proclaimed in Washington yesterday evening ‘the world finance minister of the year’ for 2006.
Dinkic is the first Serbian minister to get this reputable award that is traditionally given, at the time of the session of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, by ‘Euro Money’ – the world leading magazine in the sphere of finances and banking. As written in the explanation of the award, Dinkic managed to stabilize our national currency, the Dinar, renew the banking system, turn the deficit found in the state budget in 2005 and 2006 into surplus and decrease the country’s debt making Serbia one of the least indebted countries in Europe. It is further written that Dinkic introduced order in the tax system, introduced VAT and decreased tax on profit of enterprises to the lowest level in Europe what all increased public income and significantly decreased grey economy. Dinkic has also merit in Serbia’s payment of debts to IMF and the World Bank before due time thus making Serbia no more dependent on their financial support. That, together with successful privatization of ‘Mobi 63’ and sale of the license for the third mobile operator contributed that in 2006 Serbia attracted 4.4 billion Dollars of direct foreign investments, the most in the region.

I am suspicious of that award reprersenting appreciation for 100% good deeds that bring benefit more to Serbia rather than USA or West. After all, they care only about their interests. Are you sure there were no some financial laws to make Serbia vulnerable to global financial institutions or some privatization that would benefit USA a lot?
