Romania's Rompetrol confirms NIS interest
EM Online
Rompetrol CEO Dinu Patriciu has confirmed that his company is interested in the privatization of the Serbian oil monopoly, NIS.
"We will participate in any kind of privatization, including an offer to sell a minority share of stock and an added capitalization at a later date. We do not care about taking over most of the company. What does matter to us is the synergy that could be established between the two systems, where we would develop a market to be supplied by two refineries, one in the east and the other in the west of the Balkans. I believe we have a market that can develop only if we join companies together, and this is something none of other potential buyers can offer," Patriciu told reporters in Bucharest Wednesday.
"We are able to utilize existing assets in Romania, including the port of Midiu and the logistic at our disposal, to open up a new route for NIS to receive its crude oil supplies. Additionally, it is in the interest of consumers in both countries to establish an integrated system. For example, western Romania is a natural market for NIS. There is a thousand kilometers from Midia to Timisoara, while it amounts to 80 from NIS [facilities]/ This is a natural market and we will open it up for NIS via our distribution network," Patriciu said.

I'm pretty sure they will buy it, since they will pay more than OMV or other can't afford, Rompetrol is set to be the biggest and most powerful company of the region with more than 40 billion EURO value in just few years.

No. The company will go to the biggest bidder. The most likely buyer is a Russian firm. although, personally I'd prefer the firm goes to a firm from an Orthodox country and not to Austrian OMV.

No Russian firm. It will be Romanian one, orthodox: Rompetrol. They will pay more than OMV, plus Rompetrol is set to be 2 times bigger than OMV. Rompetrol has 20% of S France now, plus in Spain, plus all Balkans countries, Moldova + Georgia. Only in BG Rompetrol has 25% of market

They can throw around more money then Rompetrol. I'd prefer a Romanian firm since Romania doesn't use oil as a political tool while russia does.

I personally heard Mr. Dinu Patriciu, the owner of Rompetrol, that we will pay more than any other company to have NIS.
