Ahead of tender for sale of car factory Oleg Deripaska interested in ‘Zastava’ Author: R. Ž. M. - N. R. | 06.12.2007 - 06:00
After participating in the tender for sale of RTB ‘Bor’, Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska turned his focus on Kragujevac based ‘Zastava’ car factory. Namely, Austrian company ‘Magna Steier’ in which Deripaska has 43 per cent share of the capital, is interested in participation in the tender for ‘Zastava’.
Tender has been announced for December 15. The future owner is expected to invest even a billion Euros and open new jobs. ‘Although Minister Dinkic announced in September that five big world companies were interested in our car factory, we know that ‘Magna Steier’, ‘General Motors’ and companies from the Far East still remained in the game. ‘Fiat’ has given up and has no intention of investing large sums of money. The Italian company is only interested in assembling programs for their models as it is the case with ‘Punto’ today. Russian manufacturers have also given up. Two companies from India are primarily interested in the truck factory’, Zoran Mihajlovic, ‘Zastava’ executive says. The project for privatization of car factory has been already made. It envisages that buyer installs modern technology and raise production capacity to 150,000 to 200,000 cars per year. The minimal investment for that should be 151 million Euros over the period of two years. It is also expected that further 5,000 new jobs shall be opened.

Hopefully, they sell it for once. Instead of selling to possible investors including a group fo diaspora serbs, a korean company, a japanese company our government constantly insists on selling Zastava to westerners at humilitating conditions and including to criminals (i.e. Malcolm bricklin).
