Lack of Muslim Recognitions Worry Kosovo Email a friend Save article Print article Increase text size Decrease text size Pristina25 August 2008 Pristina _ Politicans, civil society activists and journalists from Kosovo and Arab countries say they are disappointed that Muslim countries have been slow to recognise Kosovo.
In a round-table named "Kosovo and Arab World" organised by the local Forum 2015 non-governmental organisation, popular Kosovar Albanian publicist and politician Veton Surroi criticised Pristina institutions for not lobbying enough to secure recognitions from the Muslim world.
"Kosovo’s foreign policy doesn’t exist," Surroi said at the conference.
Meanwhile, Arab intellectual Ridvan Al Sajet, said that the recognition of Kosovo by Muslim countries would lead the way for the self -determination of Palestinians.
Kosovo has been recognised by 6 out of the 57 countries of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.
"I can't stop Kosovars from feeling a great discontent for this, because we thought that Arab countries would lead the way in recgonising Kosovo," Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu told London-based pan-Arab newspaper, Al-Hayat.
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on February 17, and has been so far recognised by 46 countries, including the United States and most European Union countries.

Ha the Muslim states aint stupid they know very well that the Siptars are playing the Muslim card, there have been many articles and interviews from Muslim states and all of them are saying the same thing this was not a war of religion it was succesionism. And considering that the Muslim states consider the US as the Devil there really is no suprise here.

This really shouldn't be a Muslim issue per se. The entire world knows that Albania was the first Atheist state thus the connection to Kosovars being 'Muslims' is kind of watered down.
Arab Muslims hate nothing more than Muslims who gave up on their religion. They're not stupid.

No surprise here, when USA is your partner in crime you are not really fooling anyone especially not the Arab Muslim states.
46 recognitions and barely a new one on the horizon, hmm this cannot be good for you guys. 6 months down the track and you have not even reached 50. At this rate it will take you forever to get a UN seat. lol

I like how Iranian media has portrayed the situation, "An American propaganda ploy aimed at the Muslim world." i wish they said the same back in 1992, when they used to consumed huge amounts of anti-serb propaganda.
