Balkan foods are highly underated!
As long as you don't go to a cafe and ask for a cappucino and they give you nescafe! I never experianced that before 2006 and suddenly some cafes are selling that crap instead of the real deal.

All those pitas are so unhealthy. I had aunts come to USA and that's all they'd bake for weeks. I couldn't say no because that would be rude, plus I can't resist the shit, but I gained like 10 lbs. I was like wtf? Oh well, I lost it all the next month but I think I know why people died so young in my family.

Haha, good story.
I visited some friends in Sarajevo after the war and everyone made something for me so I couldn't say no. Starting with soup to Burek to cevapci to trout to grape leaves and a caserol then 6 different desserts before coffee and they were still trying to get me to take some fruit back to my hotel. Then they packed me food for my hotel room, it was so nice but it was the closest I have ever gotten to throwing up from eating food!
At least when you are there your always walking unlike the sedentary lifestyle lead in the US.

Just because people keep offering food, it doesn't mean you have to it eat it all you half-wit. They are being polite, and you should be restrained. They were probably left in awe at your gluttony and the illogicality of Bosnians being considered hungry in the world.

It's a tough one, they all good! Funny stories! I think though Burek wins my vote; but after krompurisa, which in my eyes even beats Burek :-)

In some cultures it is considered rude to leave food on the plate, it means you didn't like it. I didn't know in Bosnia that if you eat everything on the plate they will offer you more! I thought I OD'd on food, after that one horrible experiance I learned my lesson and it has never happened again! ;D

I was like wtf? Oh well, I lost it all the next month but I think I know why people died so young in my family. Maybe because the ingridients that were used were made in the USA. Anything made in the United States is bad for you. They put so much chemicals in foods its really not even funny. Thats why Bosnians cannot get fat from eating pita or any Bosnian food for that matter.

"I lost it all the next month but I think I know why people died so young in my family. "
Shit, yours too? Man, people in my family don’t usually go past 70, if that. Well the war took some, but still even before the war.
I remember during the war in the early days we had to wait in line for the Red Cross food packages, and I learned to like SPAM and Powdered eggs and powdered milk in those days all from the good ol US of A hah! And in school, NUNS started to bring us cookies, I was like WTF, I never seen a NUN before.
Ahh but Burkek all the way...well ok I pick Sarma over all this stuff

I doubt it guys. If Balkan people die sooner, tis not because of the food. I'd say stress more than anything. Western food is the worst.

^ I think thats only in Bosnia that they refer to burek as with meat only? Surely you knew that since you're from Krajina. Duh, burek s mesom, have you guys even been to the ex-yu? Not unless you count Bosnia and Krajina as "ex-yu."
