Based on the estimates of the Croatian Pensioner's Association, Croatia owes around a billion euros in unpaid pensions since 1991 to Serb refugees. The Association is asking the Vojvodina administration and international institutions to find a solution to the issue. In an interview for the paper Gradanski list published in Novi Sad, the president of the Croatian Pensioner's Association, Jovan Kablar, said that the estimated amount had been calculated based on the fact that Croatia owes back payment of 30,000-40,000 pensions.
And the figure will be dramatically increased because of legitimate legal claims on properties and land held by over 200,000 Serbs who haven't returned and demand compensation or rightful return of their properties and land. Croatia will have to settle these matters in a timely fashion as demanded by the E.U as a prerequisite for entry into the European Union, which Croatia so desperately craves. The final amount is estimated conservatively to be at least 10 billion euros were some experts saying the figure could reach 30 billion.
What goes around...comes around ;D

EU Urges Croatia to Hasten "Painful" Reforms
There is plenty of work ahead, for instance on judicial and public administration reform and in the fight against corruption, Rehn said.
Reuters
The European Union urged Croatia on Tuesday to hasten painful reforms of its judiciary and state-subsidised shipbuilding sector to keep its bid to join the 27-nation bloc in 2010 on track.
European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said after talks with Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Jandrokovic that Zagreb needed to meet key EU reform benchmarks within three months so it can open talks on difficult policy areas such as competition and public procurement.
"There is plenty of work ahead, for instance on judicial and public administration reform, pension reform for displaced Serbs and in the fight against corruption," Rehn told a joint news conference.
The European Commission has said it hopes to wrap up accession negotiations with Croatia before Filip Hofer-.--.-European Parliament elections in June 2009 provided Zagreb meets all key benchmarks by the end of June this year.
"It is essential to do it by June because otherwise the technical timetable becomes almost impossible to achieve the target date of concluding negotiations," Rehn said.

Actually Pyrros, it was the other way around, during Arkan's campaign in Croatia, Serb troops were carrying back FRIGERATORS from croatia, literally pillaging everything from them.
