FYRO Macedonia fell in captivity of its own nationalism: FYRO Macedonia fell in captivity of its own nationalism: former ambassador 3 April 2008 | 20:49 | FOCUS News Agency Sofia. The decision of Greece concerning Macedonia and the attitude of the rest of the allies of NATO showed for still another time that NATO was not only a military union but an organization of states with equal rights, former Bulgarian Ambassador to Skopje Aleksandar Yordanov said for Darik radio on the occasion of the veto imposed by Greece on Macedonia’s membership in NATO. The member states of NATO were sharing common values and principals. Such a value was respect towards history, culture and the refusal to change historical facts under the pressure of political ideologies, ambassador Yordanov declared. In his opinion the Macedonians were still living in the Yugoslavian time and served certain theses of an old propaganda which was leading them to stealing from the antique and middle-ages history. Macedonia had fallen in captivity of its own inexperienced nationalism, especially the elite who were forming the opinion of the whole society in Macedonia and of the media which were leading propaganda against Bulgaria and other neighboring states. www.focus-fen.net/?id=n137314

I love this Greek veto! And in case you really care about what the guy says, here is the translation from Bulgarian:
<We are punished not because we didn't carry out our task, but because of what we are, we are punished because of our Fyromian identity>

Pirej, don't you see that something is very very wrong with your country. Even Bulgaria is turning against you. This must be telling you a story.

I dont want to think of them necessarily as rivals but its really awkward looking at articles about their neighbors. It sometimes feels like they are rotating them in Utrinski Vesnik i.e. one day its something(negative) about Greece, the other about Bulgaria, then maybe Albania....Sometimes they may even have two sets of news in one day, slamming at two countries at once and occassionally(at least in the Bulgarian case) I have seen "news" that some Bulgarian official may have said something negative about FYROM,yet, I never came across it in a Bulgarian media. Sometimes it may not be about the relations between the countries but just pick news on negative stastics or events occuring by the particular neighbor.

<We are punished not because we didn't carry out our task, but because of what we are, we are punished because of our Fyromian identity> Thank you for the translation ! Truth is Greece DID NOT veto FYROM. NATO allies did; they all agreed not to invite FYROM in NATO, admission still pending due to name dispute. That's my understanding.

WHAT REALLY BOTHERS ALL EDUCATED PEOPLE IS THE FACT THAT THE PEOPLE OF SKOPIA WHO R OF SLAVIC ORIGIN ATTEMPT TO STEAL A PART OF GREEK HISTORY. IT IS UNDENIABLE FACT THAT ANCIENT MACEDONIAS WERE GREEK.THEDISTORTION OF HISTORY IS NOT CONSISTENT WITH THE TERMS OF PEACEFULL NEIGHBOURING. GREAT NATIONS MAKE THEIR OWN HISTORY THEY DON'T STEAL IT. HISTORY SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.
