Greek hooligans attack Macedonian rights activist Monday, 07 April 2008 In the past three days, the house of Arhimandrit Nikodim Carknjas was twice stoned by Greek hooligans. Group of 30 Greek hooligans stoned and egged Carknjas' house for no apparent reason. No one is hurt in the attack, except for material damage to the house, broken windows, damaged facade. The attack happened in the place called "Aribia" in Voden. The attack occurred on Thursday, and then again on Friday. "They threw stones and about a hundred eggs. We went out to see the damage, called the police and cleaned up the house. Then the following morning, on Friday, we were attacked again." After the attack, Arhimandrid Nikodim Carknjas went to the high school the attackers attended. 600 students waited for him and abused him verbally. The Greek professors, instead of controlling the students joined them in their insults telling him to go back to Macedonia. "Professors were yelling at me to get out of here, to go up! I said to them, where am I going to go. I told the Professors they shouldn't teach their children to be nationalists and fascists. It is shameful what they are doing." said Carknjas. Nikodim Carknjas has been fighting for Macedonian rights in Greece all of his life. Because of this he had been threatened by Greek Authorities and jailed on numerous occasions for holding Church services in Macedonian. macedoniaonline.eu/content/view/689/46/

^ That's a f ucking shame. I agree it is a shame, if true. But until I hear about these (serious) incident and news from even more sources than FYROMian papers, I will remain very sceptic about their accuracy...

yiannisss - shame on you for disregarding the incident You really think they'd show this in greek news? C'mon man... Some leftist or far leftist papers at least would certainly had reported it! Shame on you for disregarding them and me. Yes, I DO disregard many of the incident report details if not the entire incident! After all it was reported only by FYROM media, which are of the most untrustworthy in the whole world on such subjects, and until I have information from more sources on this story I am not convinced very much about it... By the way, Nikodim Carknjas is not unknown to the Greek public. He is not recognized as a priest by the Greek church nor very much as a real activist, and he is mostly assumed to be a spy. Here's a 2002 article on him titled " priesthood with a spying aroma", for those who can read in Greek: www.enet.gr/online/online_text/c=112,dt=04.08.2002,id=27689744 Article hightlights: - He used to be a priest in Greece until 1993 when he was denounced by the Greek church due to "female behaviurs" and "scandals". - During his judgement photographs and people testimonies had shocked, so the church finaly decided to denounce him. - At the time, there was nothing on him showing his later (todays) very different "career"! - He then came in contact with FYROM people (some say with Bulgaria too) and it seems that they accepted him as a priest at FYROM monasteries, and he has also appeared as such in Australia and Canada. - At 1997 he returns in Greece, where he immediately posted an application which was presenting him as a representative of the "Macedonians in Greece Human Rights movement" - With that identity, he then requested from the greek state approval to start a church for "the spiritual needs of Macedonians in Greece" and for the members of his movement - The related central authorities rejected his application due to 3 stated reasons: (1) The not recognized status of such a minority, (2) The consitution article 13, and (3) the fact that due to his earlier life and judgement by the Greek church he is not considered anymore as a Christian Orthodox priest. - Since then he is participating in several Human Rights groups and Events around the world, denouncing Greece. A few days ago (says the 2002 article) the man appeared again in Greece, this time as an Arhimandrit of the FYROM church. He found a building and tranformed it to a "church". He put crosses at the windows, and everything like a church, and he started operating it without any contact with the Greek authorities. Word of mouth says that his first church's participants were people from FYROM and Bulgaria who visited him specifically for this purpose: to start that "church". Local politicians brought the subject to the centre, and the same central athorities re-posted him the same arguments that they had posted him at 1997 and rejected him permition again. ---- Well, I don't know about the reported incident, but until I see more details and from different sources I dont believe that story very much. Until then what I initially said stands still.

ps: Here's his "church" webpage which include more FYROM style "history" than hymns plus a request to the Greek arbishops of the Greek Macedonia to abandon their positions and cities, and to move to the south for lefting the entire Macedonia to ... the FYROMians. ;D

It's time the Greek government stopped being so nice to them. No more nice guys.

What I want to know is why was this Nikodim guy going to a school where there were children? What business does he have entering school grounds?

Also what else would the teachers do to stop the kids from threatening him or attacking him? I am sure a school teacher could not handle six hundred rowdy kids. This Nikodim guy probably did something to really piss these kids off if 600 of them threatened him. My personal opinion is the guy has more balls than brains.

Panagio, obviously you didn't see the part where the TEACHERS, aided the kids in attacking the PRIEST!
This isnt about nationalism anymore, this is about morals!
And it seems to me that the Modern Greek Society Lost them all!

These "600 hooligans" are Macedonian kids that papa-Tsarknias speak on their behalf. He says that those Macedonian kids are under the Greek oppression and defines them as non-Greeks. Why should we "understand" papa-Tsarknias position and not kids' position?? After all.... if a guy had spoken for me continously by distorting my views... I would have through stones to him too.. Dont you?..... or you would start talking about his human rights of free speech by neglecting your human rights of free speech? Tero Tero...

Okay... Once again, what business does a priest have to enter a school ground to confront children? What a loser... got what he deserved.
