US: Once again, Macedonians do exist Thursday, 10 April 2008 - The United States recognizes Macedonia by its constitutional name, and consequently, it recognizes the existence of Macedonian ethnicity and Macedonian language. State Department spokesman Shon McCormack reiterated the U.S. position on Macedonia's name when asked by a persistent Greek journalist to tell what the U.S. position on the issue is. "The fact of the matter is we, as a government, recognize states. We don’t recognize languages or nationalities, per se. But Dan Fried was just pointing out, for example, we teach Macedonian at the Foreign Service Institute. But, you know, that is a practical result of the formal step that we have taken as a state to recognize Macedonia as Macedonia," McCormack said at the press conference on Wednesday. McCormack rebuffed to make further comments on the Macedonian language and ethnicity following the repeated questions by Greek journalist. macedoniaonline.eu/content/view/796/1/
