“Our Yugoslavia” Association in Croatia in Autumn
Although the founder of the association is awar of the fact that its name is a provocation, this autumn he will apply for its registration.
ZAGREB, CROATIA – “Our Yugoslavia” (original “Nasa Jugoslavija”) is the name of the association which should be founded in Croatia in autumn. The first association with this name was founded in May in Pozarevac, and homonymous associations will soon appear in all countries of former Yugoslavia.
Zlatko Stojkovic, residents in Germany, is one of the initiator of the Croatian branch of “Our Yugoslavia”. He said that one of the things which motivated him to found the association is the hatred which has come up in the past 20 years in the region of former Yugoslavia.
- Our aim is to strengthen the collaboration in culture, sports and all other fields. Our greatest interest is to develop inter-human relations focused on the countries of former Yugoslavia, we lived like this for many years – Stojkovic explained.
“the word Yugoslavia in the name can be a provocation”
However, founding an association under the name “Our Yugoslavia”, no matter good intentions, may be taken as an offence by many people. The promoter of the association himself is aware of this.
- The word Yugoslavia in the name of the association can be taken as a provocation. I do not know how the administration will react to it, but we have no intention to irritate people – said Stojkovic. He said that students and highly educated people are those who are mostly interested in being a member of the association, even academics and doctors.
From the article 142 of the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia on the prohibition of organisation
It is forbidden to start a process of organisation in the Republic of Croatia in federation with other countries in which the organisation body would or could lead to the restoration of the Yugoslavian state unity, i.e. bind certain Balkanian states in any way.
Not even the Croatian Constitution is a holdback to “Our Yugoslavia”
Stojkovic expects he will manage to give in the request to register the association in Croatia by this Autumn, and not even the article 142 of the Croatian Constitution can be a holdback if they decide to register the association under that name.
This article, in fact, forbids the organisation of the Republic of Croatia with other countries which would restore a Yugoslavian state unity.
- There are no holdbacks for the creation of an association with the name “Yugoslavia”. The prohibition is applied only to organisations with other countries - Stojkovic said.
First project of “Our Yugoslavia” – Exhibition “War Journey of the Marshal”
While the Serbian association “Our Yugoslavia” is already negotiating with Belgrade’s Historic Museum of Yugoslavia in order to hold an exhibition under the name “War Journey of the Marshal” (original “Ratni Put Marsala”), Stojkovic announced that the exhibition could be held in a Croatian city.
- The exhibition could be held in Zagreb, Rijeka or Pula – said Stojkovic.
Until the foundation of “Our Yugoslavia, there already is a place for Croatian Yugo-nostalgic and those who are about to become so where they can express their sympathy for Yugoslavian intimacy. This Saturday in Kumrovac, on occasion of Josip Broz Tito’s birthday, his devotees will have the chance to mark out the Day of Happiness.
We found out from Tomislav Badovinac, president of the Josip Broz Tito Brotherhood and organiser of the Day of Youth celebration, that this year they expect about 15,000 people to visit Tito’s home village.
