Old but relevant.
Greece secretly kept nuclear weapons on its territory for 40 years, Greek daily Ta Nea said.
No Greek government had formally acknowledged the nuclear arms secretly stored in various parts of the country, the paper says.
The last 20 nuclear heads were secretly sent out of Greek air force base Araksos, Peloponnesian peninsula, in spring 2001.
The paper says the infrastructure was preserved and new nuclear weapons can be stored at the same base.
The first atomic bombs were brought to the base on 14 July 1962, based on collusion between Greece and the United States, codenamed Provia. The deal dates from 1959/
The deal envisages deployment of nuclear bombs and missiles in Elefsina base, and then in bases in Kukus, Yannina and Drama.
Nuclear missiles were targeted at the then socialist countries Albania, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, the pro-opposition daily Ta Nea said.
