the are so many false researches about arvanites.
the arvanites speak us the true before those idiots.
old arvanites in kafenion tell us that the are pure
greeks and not albanians.

assimilation has caused them to be almost extinct as Arvanitis in Greece



where as the ones in Italy still have there old Albanian selves ,they
have and are allowed their own clubs and fly their flags freely .
the majority of young might not speak the old language but
I bet they know a few words ...and no fear of saying
they are Albanians/Arbreshi/Gegez ...and say it proudly

now could that be in the difference of Catholicism between Orthodoxy
or in the two countries policies on minorities


mind you that in Turkey the Albanians have their clubs and have no problem acknowledging themselves as Albanians




but for some same reason to have an Albanian club in Athens or Belgrade is a no no .....

its the fault of Greece that has not protected and
acknowledge them properly in their history .


My father use to say that in the 1950's he could get Greek
Radio stations on his old Grundig Radio .....no TV's at that
time in my village ....they would play Albanian songs or mixes
of Albanian & Greek words in the songs ....but in the 1960's
they stopped ....mind you we are in Prespa close to Florina


see ...even hard line Enver Hodxha in the yearly music
festivals would allow Greek and Slavic songs in the festivals
....not maybe that he dictated who and what was played
but as just simple common courtesy bcs of the fact they had a few

Real pic of Arvanitis in 1962 ....friends of my parents in Athens Greece

he didnt speak Arvanitika/Albanian but simple hello and byes.
But his wife did ..she worked at hospital where my mother
gave birth to me . they met bcs she ended up being translator
for my mother ,her name was Pinelopi (Penelope) and they
both had over 4-5 generations of Arvaniti in Greece

then they took us in for a month before the boat to USA

then 25 years later I tried to find these people but
they had moved away and no time for more searching
...maybe on my next visit

no I never did ....well yea Greek Arvanitis maybe yes

then I also have to find a Greek family /man and wife who
were Deaf but little children were not ..they also helped my
parents on their odyssey ....I have their names and village
name on paper that my parents wrote from way back ....
maybe on my next sabbatical

In closing :

We the majority of ALBANIANS that didn't assimilate
into any of our subjugators or neighbors ...it is our duty
to keep them alive and their true story alive and going for them.

if you wont we will ...same way that you keep the stories going
for any Greeks in other countries ...you sing yours lullabies we will be singing lullabies to ours .
