www.flickr.com/photos/fortner_fine_art/ I am currently doing research on my painting. Any ideas of who the sitter might be or where he is from? I believe the painting was done in the 19th century( style) and that the sitter was connected to one of the many battles against the Ottomans in the late 18th century or in the 19th Century. There is the cypher which has a coronet and the letter M with 1762. This cypher was applied at a latter date, perhaps when the painting was sold or repaired. The 1762 could also refer to a victory over Mahmoud Aga of Margriti the governor of Arta (Ottomans) by the Souli in 1762 Thank you for thoughts!

Most logical place for this post would seem to be Greek forum, but hey that is just me.
