Serbian authorities have banned a gay pride parade planned for Sunday in the capital Belgrade saying they fear it will end in violence.A number of counter-demonstrations have also been banned. Last year, several people were injured in clashes between police and far-right groups trying to stop the parade. Organisers have criticised the ban, saying Serbian authorities have capitulated to extremists. Officials insist it is to protect public safety. Correspondents say homophobia is widespread in Serbia. Irinej, the head of the influential Serbian Orthodox Church, labelled the planned event a "pestilence" and a "parade of shame". Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said the marches had been banned to avoid "major chaos". "Because of these rallies - above all the anti-parade protests - we could expect enormous damage to public order and peace," he said. "We have seen reports that indicated riots would spread in central Belgrade... to burn cars, headquarters of ruling political parties, seats of foreign companies and embassies." In a statement supporting the ban, President Tadic said: "That way, the citizens, members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender population are protected." Last year's gay pride parade in Belgrade was the first since 2001 when clashes provoked by far-right extremists broke up the march. Parade organisers said the ban showed that the authorities had not tackled far-right extremists since last year's violence. "Last year they said the state is stronger than the hooligans but this year they capitulated," organiser Goran Miletic told the AFP news agency. "They don't want a pride parade. It is a lack of political will." However, the ultra-nationalist group Obraz (Honour) said on its website that the ban was a "victory". www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-15134182

B/c "happy-people" don't care so much for a parade, only EU-poodles and N. American huskies.

I like how the BBC interviewed a right-wing organization (OBRAZ) for an opinion. (As if they represent all Serbians living in Belgrade).
The BBC could have interviewed any academic/scholar/student (anyone with a bit more credibility) to get the same answer.
Propaganda at work. How and why?
Well the BBC wants to make Serbia look like a right-wing, chauvenistic, agressive and overly-macho nation. Implying that no educated or academic person can ever opose such a parade (bulls**t). Good work to the BBC.
London can carry on with their rainbow parades, the citizens of Belgrade have spoken.

The whole parade was noving more then an attempt at misguiding the masses. I seem to have noticed that in the last 2 years everytime something is reported about the parade (i.e. a minister or official says anything about it) it seems to become headline news, grabbing more attention then it deserves.
As well every time everything gets said is strangely around the same time some international financial institution has a meeting with government officials.
It seems like a perfect strategy. Distract the masses with talk of Soddomites, Soddom and Gamorrah, while you behind closed doors sell more and more of the state to international finance.
The whole situtation is unbecoming of a state. If the gay population wants a parade, as soon as they announce it declare whether you will support it or provide security. No serious state would waste 6 months contradicting its self each time the wind blows - one day the president supports, then the prime minister doesn't, then the head of MUP contradicts himself in one day.

What do you know about the Serbian Radical Party? Well first off, they're radical. Secondly, they want a "Greater Serbia", and would not give the same rights to homosexuals as they would with heterosexuals.

People are nationalistic for these reasons
Number one because they only want their country for the people who are indigenous to that area.
Number two they wouldn't like homosexuals because it would mean the decline of human population. Human beings can only pro create with a woman or a man. In this day and age, there are other methods like IVF or whatever or sperm doners. But if every single person on this planet was gay then it would kind of take away the meaning of people and it'sself as we know it.

It's about NOT having the parade. Many homosexuals who live in Belgrade couldn't care-less for a parade of this nature. Being a nationalist has NOTHING to do with having a stance on this nor does it have anything to do with fascism.

Also being around gay people won't make you gay any more than being around tall people will make you tall. Nationalism does not exclude gay people, that's why they repealed "don't ask don't tell" in the us military. If someone wants to take it from behind instead of the front that's their business.
