"good one as well. All the rural lexis used to be Serbian-Slavic in the balkans. In our village we didnt say "aggouri" (cucumber) we said kastraveci (krastavac), we didn't say kefali (head) we said glava, we didn;t say saura (lizzard) we said gousterica....
it used to be all slavic..... it used to be wonderful!!"
Pyrro, l've noticed the Albanian academics are Illyrianising as much as they can, if an international scholar finds an illyrian word they quickly adopt this word, if they find a name, the Albanians will quickly adopt this name, for instance the name Illir, Albanians in 1081AD were never calling their sons this nor were they calling their daughters Teuta, its pretty much a phenomenon we have been witnessing only in the last 150 years because the Austrians have told them so.

"This is not quite correct. The ancient world functioned differently from our own age in at least two respects. Loan words into a language came in from specific contacts in time and place. This has been true throughout history, and is still somewhat true today. People borrowed from the period during which the contact existed. Even today we speak modern English and other people absorb modern English words but we don’t speak or borrow from Middle English (which even Englishmen cannot understand anymore without special training), let along Old English."
Greeks don't speak ancient greek these days, so why the emphasis on ancient greek loans?
RD, there will be words that continue through to this day, my point was to demonstrate that peoples on the fringes of the Byzantine Empire could have absorbed some ancient Greek loans, and it may have survived through the evolution of a language.
"Proto-Alb speakers borrowed from northwestern Doric Greek, the people they made contact with sometime Before Current Era (BCE), and they did not borrow from the later Ionian Greek or the distant Cretans. Scholars clearly spell this out as a specific point of contact whereby Proto-Alb speaker acquired some Doric Greek vocabulary relating to agricultural activities. In fact Proto-Alb seems to have borrowed very little from ancient Greek, which as you probably know, leads scholars to suggest that proto-Alb speakers were located or widespread further North from we know them today, north of Jirecek line."
Whos to say they borrowed from this location, as l have mentioned above they may have borrowed words during their time in Sicily or in East Asia Minor.
What fascinates me RD, if Albanians are ancient to this region and are direct descendants of the Illyrian Albanoi tribe, then why did modern Albanian (Shqip) develop into a Satem language but not Centum, Ancient Greek and modern Greek are/were Centum languages, unless Greek was initially a Satem language group like modern Slavic/Iranian or Armenian?
"Today it’s possible for modern English to have used or borrowed ancient Greek words because we have recovered the ancient records, but don’t forget that ancient Greek knowledge and literature was lost to the European world during the Dark and Early Middle Ages. During this time no ancient Greek words or ideas could have been borrowed into English or any other Euro language. It was only after the contacts were made during the Crusades that this ancient knowledge started flowing back into Europe, having been preserved by the Arabs."
So your telling me this was the reason why Albanians were un-noticed?
"In other words, Alb speakers couldn’t have borrowed ancient Doric Greek vocab from the Byzantine Greeks. Scholars confirm the specificity of time, place and nature of borrowings. When we borrowed Turkish words, we borrowed the words as they were spoken at the time of the contact, not as they were written or spoken centuries ago somewhere in central Asia."
RD, listen man, we have Romanised locals who could have PRESERVED these words, we Serbs also have ancient Greek loans, and who did we exactly assimilate (Thracians, Romanised locals and Northern Greeks), it was noted with us Serbs that we captured some Northern Greeks and assimilated them, and why is there towns in Northern Greece called Servia, Servianna or Ta-Serblia, those Vardarians/Fyromians are in actual fact Serbs not Bulgarians, they are the decendants of the Sorbian Slavs of Eastern Germany.
Another question RD, how did the Albanians ESCAPE ROMANISATION?

This could be a good thing. Dacic may be pushing them to the point of doing something stupid, and without hesitation with all the Right he'll sweep down and destroy these extremists once and for all.
Albs for some reasons think they're above the law (and when they get booked they pull the victim card), why don't you guys calm down and allow the courts to decide their fate?

i have no doubt in my mind that this is an orchestration between serbia and macedonia to portray albs as terrorists, its not a wild coincidence that those people arrested in serbia happened shortly after the macedonian authorities made their arrests, the accusations are identical and intentions are the same, this is the last throw of the dice to get the rest of the world to view albs as backward radicals in order to have the sympathy of the west swing on their side.

There's no need for Western sympathy for the Serbs in this case at all. That's the Albanian game. Anyway, you may be right that the timing is perfect but at the same time awhile back Dacic announced that this will happen. I'm just wondering who gave him the go-ahead. Maybe the call came from Washington....

^ Rex, the Romans decided who was going to get Romanised, they said to the ones who were going to become Albanians (Shqiptars) to hide up in the mountains and wait for 800 to 900 years, while the ones in lowlands to be Romanised and become the Aromanians/Vlachs.
PS The Romans devastated Illyricum and they annihilated the illyrian race, don't forget.

^I don't think anyone can deny that the Illyrian race has been annihilated.

^ Uz, the Albanians here are going to say some managed to survive. They are telling us that, like Rex, they also managed to survive Romanisation (while some didn't and became Romanised Vlachs). Some others say, during Slavic arrival, the Albanian (Illyrian-Shqiptars) were pushed up into the mountains, and up in the mountains *free of slavic influence* learnt slavic names for Flora?
Believe me brate, they too know these contradictions as well, but its important to keep this theory going because it serves the HISTORICAL ETHNIC ALBANIA!

Of course Albanians have managed to survive, this goes for all Europeans peoples' who still exist today ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) . All nations that exist TODAY have survived. They rely on the quasi-beleif that blood is everything.... yet they know nothing of their own-blood. That's their basic contradiction, since it took foreigners to teach them about Illyrians to begin with. Nothing was saved, nothing was protected, all was lost, some blood conection....
