Famous singer greets the crowd 70,000 strong with a fascist salute (2:28) at a national holiday celebration in Croatia - a soon-to-be EU member. srb.am/Thompson2012 На српском: srb.am/TompsonCroatia is a soon to be European Union member state. It celebrates its national holiday on the 5th August, the anniversary of military operation "Storm" in 1995. During the operation Storm, the territory controlled by local Serbs was conquered, or liberated, depending on the point of view. What should not depend on the point of view is the respect for the victims: more than 200,000 Serbs forced out from their homes, and up to 2000 killed. It is the biggest ethnic cleansing in Europe since WWII. While Croatian top state officials gather at the official celebration in Knin, large crowd attends the concert given at Čavoglave. The main star and the host of the event is Marko Perković Thompson. The most famous Croatian singer is also infamous for celebrating the Holocaust at Jasenovac, presumably the most brutal death camp of WWII, in his songs. Fascist symbols are traditionally displayed at the event. Although Police stated that there would be a "zero tolerance" for symbols inciting hatred, this year was no different. Thompson himself used the Ustasha Nazi salute to greet the crowd, which responded with one voice: "Za dom - spremni" (For homeland - ready, the equivalent of "Sieg Heil"). On a wave of antiserbism, something otherwise unthinkable has become a reality. Countdown to the big comeback of fascist salute in Europe has begun. If the European integration of Croatia is carried out as planned, on August 5, 2013, tens of thousands will chant fascist salute in European Union. Unless we fight it! Serbs weren't the only victims of Ustasha Nazi genocide. We call upon Jewish organizations, Holocaust memorial organizations, and all antifascists to join us in our protest.

This is unfortunate from my humble point of view.
More accurately it celebrates the end of the war in Croatia.
Forced? Forced by whom? I was unaware that voluntarily leaving constitutes a forced ethnic cleansing. The Serbian leaders made the decision for their people and it was Serbian troops escorting Serb civilians out of Croatia. Croatians never gave the Serbs an ultimatium of leave or die, they gave them an ultimatium of lay down your weapons or prepare to fight. Not only did the Serbs lay down their weapons they left on their own volition. This is not ethnic cleansing such as what happened in Eastern Slavonia to Croats and Eastern Bosnia to Bosniaks.
I used to like Thompson a lot until he sunk so low to celebrate Jasenovac. In his narrow minded view he was bolstering Croatian pride but in reality he was making us look terrible. He was playing on the bitterness experienced by Croatians in the recent war and found an easy opportunity to tease a reaction under the guise of Croatian pride. Crap like that makes it hard for us to shake this stigma , crafted by Croatian enemies so well , that we are 'fascist.' He never apologized. I totally understand the negative reactions to this.
The Croatian hail of 'Za Dom Spremni' and straight arm salute was used long before the Ustase hijacked it. But Thompson has done no one any favors by being a hypocrit. He is a villager from Cavoglave , a place brutally attacked by the most vicious Serb mercenaries, and tolerance is far from the mind of any who experienced what he experienced there. Still , it is no excuse , and his overt nationalism does no one any favors and only brings us controversy and forces us to actually have to defend our justification for defending our homeland. :/
Typical Serb paranoia. Nuff said.
Oh noez.lol. Actually such a relatively small gathering in a place like Cavoglave wouldn't make the national news. Serbs see this as the norm in every part of Croatia. Cavoglave is not all of Croatia. Actually Serbs should do everything in their power to promote Croatia joining the EU as this would be a mostly good situation for Croatian Serbs.
Serbs will have a hard time finding 'anti fascist' support so long as the same authors of this little piece here probably also support Ratko Mladic , Republika Srpska , dream about 'Krajina', the expulsion of Albanians from Kosovo , Cetniks far and wide, etc. It's almost laughable.

This is a real shame yet totally expected. When Croats are given then green light to be nationalist and protect their war criminals - being part of the project. While Serbs should be "ashamed" and God-forbid!!! we stand by our General and RS-founder... God-forbid Serbs support those who fought for Serbs.

This forum is still a joke. Filled with Serbs and Josipovic supporters. If it's one entity that is fascist it is the EU.
