Vučinić fires Montenegro to historic win
by Margus Luik from Tallinn
Estonia 0-1 Montenegro
A lone Mirko Vučinić strike earned Montenegro their first official victory since joining the international football family and condemned Estonia to their second defeat inside four days.
Historic night
The unmarked AS Roma front-man got himself on the end of Nikola Drinčic's corner four minutes before the interval and flicked the ball past Mihkel Aksalu to create history for the visitors. Montenegro had beaten Hungary in March but the fixture was not recognised by FIFA.
Quick start
Montenegro displayed no signs of inexperience by immediately taking the game to their hosts and dominating much of the opening period. Inside five minutes, Drinčic and Simon Vukčević had tested Aksalu, making his debut in the home goal. Estonia responded moments later, however, when they created their only notable chance of the first half. Ragnar Klavan exchanged passes with Joel Lindpere before shooting wide of the Montenegro goal.
Deciding moment
For the visitors, Milorad Pekovic could only let fly over the crossbar when supplied by Luka Pejović. Then Aksalu was again called into action, tipping over Radomir Djalović's header. Estonia had not heeded the warning, though, and Montenegro broke the deadlock through Vučinić in the 41st minute.
Late chances
Montenegro started the second half as they had finished the first, in control. Djalović tested the reflexes of half-time substitute goalkeeper Sergei Pareiko, ending a four-year absence from the national team. The locals rallied in the closing stages in an attempt to salvage a draw, but Kristen Viikmäe volleyed straight at Darko Božović on 87 minutes before Božović again frustrated Estonia by keeping out Tarmo Kink's free-kick. Montenegro duly made history in Tallinn.
