“Beowulf” is a heroic epic poem written by an unknown author in Old English, some time between
the 8th and the 10th Century CE. It is one of the most important works of Anglo-Saxon literature,
and has been the subject of much scholarly study, theory, speculation and discourse. However,
new information has surfaced that may suggest that the story is far from just a poem. Was
Beowulf based on facts and if so, what was the strange beasts he encounters?

The downplaying of women's roles in the Germanic sagas didn't come into effect until after
the tribes were converted to Christianity.

I would think that Loki represents every man. We are all capable of good or evil and alot of our
lives are complicated and rarely polarized either way. I know in my own experience I have
always tried to be a good man but also like to be a trickster and tease and torment especially
those I love the most. The other Gods are more polarized as good or evil or feel above such
things and purely act on their own ambitions. Loki to me seems to represent the common man
and the decisions we must make with our free will to be good or evil and all the shades in
between and the complexities they hold.

Before they became Christian, the Anglo-Saxons worshipped the same gods as the Norse.
There was much overlap in their beliefs.
