Putin says France resents Russia for stepping on its tail in Africa

Putin says France resents Russia for stepping on its tail in Africa - The sands of time shift dramatically across the vast expanse of Africa, where a fascinating geopolitical dance unfolds. France, once a dominant force with a long colonial past, witnesses its influence wane as former colonies like Mali and Burkina Faso sever ties, fueled by an increasingly fierce anti-French sentiment. Meanwhile, Russia emerges as a new partner, arms outstretched. The Kremlin, capitalizing on this shift, cultivates blossoming relationships across the continent, offering military support and economic partnerships. This newfound camaraderie between Russia and various African nations stands in stark contrast to the tense relations with France, creating a complex web of competition and underlying friction that hangs heavy over the continent's future. This reality has also led to some very obvious tension between Russia and France, so much so that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has called out French President Emmanuel Macron for being increasingly hostile to Russia simply because it is gaining more allies in Africa while France is losing friends. In an interview published on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin fired shots at French President Emmanuel Macron, saying that Macron’s recent criticism of Moscow on Ukraine is down to resentment at losing Friends in Africa to the Kremlin. Emmanuel Macron has so far been one of the most vocal Western leaders to criticize the Kremlin recently. On a state visit to the Czech Republic on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, Macron emphasised that there were no limits to France’s support for Kyiv whilst urging Ukraine’s allies to not be cowardly in assisting the country to win the war against Russia. Macron added that he still stood behind highly controversial remarks made some weeks ago about the possibility of deploying Western troops to Ukraine, which sent shockwaves throughout Europe. However, Putin believes that all these comments were made because increasing Russian influence in Africa has triggered an emotional reaction in Emmanuel Macron.
