Bulgarian ecologists will turn to Europol November 21, 2007 BG Sofia. Some ecological organizations united in “So the Bulgarian nature may remain” coalition have filed a letter to Europol in connection with construction works in protected natural reserves in Bulgaria. They are asking for investigation, as they have not received support of any relevant institutions in the country. According to them some offshore companies with unclear ownership and origin register daughter companies in Bulgaria and through them mixed firms in three municipalities – Sapareva Banya, Samokov, and Smolyan. These regions are home to major projects like “Super Borovetc”. The coalition’s signal is for illegal deals for thousands of acres of woodland and state property, Duma daily reported. And they won't. Although I consider such ecological, human rights and so on organizations as useless and even harmful in most cases, something really must be done. The problem is that there are too many people in high positions who are connected with those projects so it is impossible to expect they are going to act against their own interests.
