Bulgaria's Former Tsar and PM to Bid for EU President 25 March 2008, Tuesday Bulgaria's former tsar and MP Simeon Saxe-Coburg might bid for the position of EU President according to his close associate Milen Velchev. Photo by Yuliana Nikolova (Sofia Photo Agency)Bulgaria's last tsar Simeon Saxe-Coburg, who was also prime minister of the country in 2001-2005, might possibly bid for the position of President of the European Union. This was confirmed unofficially by the Deputy Chair of the National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP) Milen Velchev before the Bulgarian private TV channel BTV. "It would be a wonder if his nomination were not discussed", said Velchev who is Bulgaria's former Finance Minister in Saxe-Coburg's government. In his words, the nomination of the former PM is deserved and logical. Yet, this would mean that he would have to leave Bulgaria's domestic politics. "This could only be a loss for Bulgaria", Velchev stated. Simeon Saxe-Coburg is currently the Chair of the NMSP party, which he founded in 2001, and which is a junior partner in Bulgaria's three-way coalition. He was Tsar of Bulgaria between 1943 and 46 when at the age of eight he was exiled by the communist regime. In 2001 he won overwhelmingly the parliamentary elections after his promise to make Bulgaria an economically prosperous society in 800 days. The position of EU President is introduced with the Lisbon Reform Treaty, which has been ratified by six of the 27 EU member states so far. www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=91614

Arse-kissing stupidity at its best. The biggest thief and most incompetent prime minister of all bidding for EU president...this must be a tasteless joke.

Better than the cleptoman gypsy Ivan Kostov. Simeon is far more respected in EU. More than any other Bulgarian parlamentarist. Haha... Of course he realized how things worked in Bulgaria. He took what he could..

^ Bulgarians should try to prevent him from using terms like King. He is not a Bulgarian but a pathetic German princeling. If Bulgaria is to have a king then Bulgarians should choose a Bulgarian not a Bavarian princeling.

But that's how the whole European Royal house looks like. All European royal families are realtives with each other.

But that's how the whole European Royal house looks like. All European royal families are realtives with each other. And that is why the vast majority of them will not take into acocunt the interests of their nations. A Greek monarch should be a Greek, not a German princeling. A bulgarian monarch should be a Bulgarian, not a Bavarian princeling.

Don't blame Bulgarians. That is what gift the Western powers gave them with the Treaty of Berlin. Bugarians were not asked about their opinion. They didn't have anything to say. The rule over them was handed for Ottoamns to Westerners. But they still claim independence.
What would they know? They have never experienced it! Thus, no clue... But I pray for you that one day you receive it too and enjoy it to the full extent.

Yahac, its always better to be ruled by Westerners than Ottomans. Too bad we werent conquered in 1396 by the Austians if we had to be captured by anyone. The Ottoman "presense" is just a sweet myth, alive only in Turkey (which is understandable). As far as Simeon goes, I kind of see why he would be nominated. Maybe tnx to the fact he grew up OUTSIDE of bg he at least makes the impression he is well educated cultural man in the rare moments he speaks.

Romania's first king was Prussian. He was invited by our arictocracy. He was a good and capable king. Bulgaria asked him to accept the Bulgarian crown beside the Romanian one, and as such, unite the two countries. He turned them down, probably for fear of retaliation from Russia. We all have our opinion on how a good ruler should be like, but we often take what's given to us.

Ivanov, what about the other ("nice") politicians.. who's been involved much longer in Bulgaria's politic life? He probably learned from those "polite" frauds how "things" work in BG..

Rhezus, I read your posts as carefully as I can. What I see is that you are kind of obssessed with Bulgarian politicians. I am sure you will be the best administrator Bulgaria have ever had. Why don't you retun to your country and apply your priceless knowledge and skills where they will be most appreciated?

You don't need to read my lines carefully to understand that I will never settle back to such a hornet nest. I have my life to live.. If there were couragous ppl enough in Bulgaria, they won't wait a minute but fight the system. So I'll continue observing.. where Bulgaria goes?!

So you are a coward who is afraid to return to his country to fight the system or to change something and waits for other people to do this. Continue with your observations.

So now you are accusing me of being afraid?? I can tell you that you are one of those cowards, not saying a thing - allowing to be cheated time after time by your corrupted government. I did my best and I don't live there anymore. Fight for your own rights, if you want to live there. Don't expect me to do it for you.

I don't get your logic, at least I live in my country, not staying abroad and howling against the moon like you do. May I know what is this 'best' you have done? You are some fighter for human rights who was not sufficiently assessed in his own country or what? I expect nothing from you, Heaven forbid!

I don't understand you logic either.. staying in your "fall into decay" apartment, stearing at your 60W lapm. That's all what you can do.. Don't throw your desperate anger - have a life or try improving it (in case you'd like to have a decent one). And don't ask me about my life - this is absolutely non of your business. Why did you write this above?! "...afraid to return to his country to fight the system or to change something"Me, to change the system for you? Haha.. are you insane?
