Serbia, has never done any harm to us, Alijia is rather mistaken all those countries except for last 4 which im sure he is just joking got Independence from Yugoslavia and not Serbia. Montenegro too has got Independence and i feel from Yugoslavia and not Serbia, it is nothing personal against Serbia, But Montenegro like Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia is a different Republic, i suppose if you like Country and wants to have it say about its own affairs and directions it is going.

I don't know too much about this issue, but why did you guys acquire Independence from Serbia? Answer is simple. America uses old strategy which could be described as : divide et impera. It is aplicable for whole ex - Yugoslavia ass well.

Several reasons: - At present it makes economic sense -- Serbia is too unstable for Montenegro to be associated with it, especially when there is a tourist boom. - Montenegrin politicians blame Serbia for all their problems. Although since independence nothing has really improved. - G-17+ party(part of government) have called for Montenegro to be made part of Serbia as nothing but 1 or 2 okrugs in Serbia after the independence referendums. This proposal is nothing more then an insult to Montenegrins and it's history. - It is idiotic to have a federal state consisting of two states, especially when one state has a population almost 12 times larger then the other one and an economy almost 20 times larger. - The two states have very different economic interests. - Montenegro has historically been independent.

The most important reason is : Montenegro has to look after its own interests.

I think the biggest reason is because it didn't make political or economic sense to stay together anymore, and that feeling overpowered blood relations and closeness between the people. You cannot deny that there is closeness between the people. Montenegro had an independence referendum in 1992 as well. Milo Djukanovic, and all the 2006 separatists, campaigned for a common state back then and 96% of the people voted to stay with Serbia in Yugoslavia (Albanians and certain separatists boycotted that vote, but 66% of the population still came out to vote). A lot of people changed their mind over the next 14 years because the situation changed. Yugoslavia was consumed by so many political problems (Kosovo, extraditions to ICTY), which hindered economic development, and the easiest thing to was just to leave them to Serbia. That is exactly what happened.

Certain people felt they would make alot more personal profit from independence. Particularly on the coastline.
The rest of the population didn't really gain or lose anything.
You could call it a net gain, but really the foreign ownership of the CG coastline makes it a net loss.

For many it was also about their pride and identity, being represented on an international level.

Actually contrary to popular serbian belief, Malsor/Montenegrin Albanians are very proud of Montenegro and proud of being part of Montenegrin history and its future.

Contrary to Serbian belief?
I don't read any Serbian newspapers, or go out of my way to talk to relatives about Albania.
So in case you haven't noticed yet, I never promote Serbia or being Serbian because I (unlike you and Cikola) don't lie about being disconnected from that part of the world.
Good riddance too, you can get straight facts from looking at economic data and political maneuverings of countries, not seljaks living in villages.
