Bulgarian ozeki Kotooshu (Kaloyan Mahlyanov) defeated Mongolian sekiwake Ama to claim the title at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament on Saturday to enter the history books as the first European wrestler to win an Emperor's Cup. Kotooshu won his first career title with a record of 13-1 at the 15-day meet at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. Kotooshu came flying out of the crouch, getting both arms wrapped around Ama's mawashi before tackling his opponent from behind. ''I have no words to express. I am so happy. I finally did it,'' said Kotooshu, who took 34 tournaments from his sumo debut to win the Emperor's Cup. Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov congratulated Kaloyan Mahlyanov on his huge success and wished him many new wins on his way to the highest rank in professional sumo wrestling - Yokozuna

Dzulyunitsa Glorifies Its Sumo Hero
From now on remote Japan will celebrate the Day of Slavonic Script and Bulgarian Culture along with Kaloyan Mahlyanov's victory in the Emperor's tournament. On May 24, Kotooshu won the title in the toughest sumo competition. When the Japanese learnt that that the Bulgarian sumo wrestler won his first title on the day of the most beloved Bulgarian holiday, they decided to throw a party on that date. Today and tomorrow in Dzulyunitsa, Kotooshu's native village, an international press center will open doors. Reporters from Japanese newspapers have already arrived in the village and later the correspondents of several TV channels from the "land of the Rising Sun" are expected. Ivelina Getzova - mayor of the Lyaskovetz municipality is considering to organize a gala celebration of Kotooshu's success
