Is Croatia Italian Toxic Waste Dump Site?
The eco-mafia has profited 132 Bln euro in 10 years of exporting the toxic waste.
Italian RAI TV network reported in its main news show that Croatia is one of the main destinations where the Italian eco-mafia illegally exports toxic waste.
The eco-mafia, as reporters state in the TV piece, has profited 143 billion euro in the past ten years by exporting the toxic waste, the Croatian Jutarnji list daily writes.
As they state, the largest part goes to China and India, followed by Croatia, Austria and Syria. Norway and France are also mentioned.
- Let`s send waste to Croatia because it is cheaper: 137 euro per ton – is the motto of protestors against dump sites in Naples, as reported by Turin-based La Stampa.
Seeing how they are clearly aware of the exact amount a ton of waste costs, it is to be presumed that the dangerous waste has been exported to Croatia for a longer period of time and it should be investigated where in Croatia it precisely ends up.
Last year alone, Italian customs officers have confiscated over 286 containers mostly containing toxic waste. However, the Legambiente association estimated a mush larger number is at stake that crosses the border each day. This waste, they claim, is falsely declared in most cases.
Croatian Ministry of Environmental Protection, Physical Planning and Construction has denied these media writings, saying import of such waste was not possible.
- Import of communal waste from Naples to Croatia is not possible because the Law on Waste, article 47 bans importing hazardous waste and communal waste for disposal and usage of energy purposes – the Ministry states.
