Do you think it's about time to allow Albanian language in Greek Public Schools as a second language?

I think so too. All the albanian kids that are born in Greece, are albanians after all, and they should know their mother language...it's about human rights.

Yes it should be allowed but the lessons themselves should be put on a bad time of day, the marks gained there should be totally unimportant for the school report, so that it becomes after some years totally unattractive to the students. Alltogether it means preserving human rights, without letting your own, national interests going down, simply with the help of bureaucracy. In reality its just a bypass of "human rights" (while i think human rights is a very strong term to use it in this issue).
Same way the Germans have resolved this "problem" of mother tongue lessons. And they were successfull. I dont blame them for that and by now no foreigner really complains, since their own children dont want to join these lessons anymore simply because of snugness.

Probably human rights wasn't the right words to use, but as you said, they should have an option to learn their language, but at the end of the day the choice will be theirs...

In Greece's case perhaps, seeing as the Albanians (Arvanites) were a big factor in the creation of their country. It would be a shame to lose the language.
But it should be totally elective

Flamuri ne Athine opaaaa sssss...hahaha. I have been to Greece a long time ago when I was younger to visit my uncle, he told me not to speak Albanian in public, I don't know if things have changed much now but for Albanian schools to open in Greece? Forget it. Greket nuk jane Evropjane, jane rrace Afrikanesh so we should expect them to behave like such...

Wake up. Your final comments can be said about any modern nation. Not really. Many of us here live in modern nations and that is absolutely not true. No Albanian in the west is scared to speak his/her own language but Greece. As for Albanian schools in Greece: www.forumishqiptar.com/archive/index.php/t-64083.html

No Albanian in Greece is scared to speak his language... maybe that was the case 15 years ago..but not today.
There are places in Quebec where I am really scared to speak English.... no kidding!
There are already schools funded by Albanians for kids..... in all honesty..you don't want Greece to fund your schools? We have the same system in Canada... to be funded partly by the host nation...you need to have a percentage of teaching in Greek..something like 60% Greek and 40% Albanian.

There are many ways to make these schools attractive to kids:
- No homework. Since most Albanians will come with a basic knowledge of the language, simply practicing it while also occasionally doing grammar exercises, will suffice. - Feed a diaspora's nationalistic feelings. Dont teach from a text book but instead talk about how great the culture is, the history etc. etc. Create a social environment around these lessons so instead of simply reading, the kids are taking an active part. - Great groups that develop into friendships. By having kids stay together they will become friends and in turn will look at the classes as fun and exciting so they can see their friends. Make special accommodation for socializing periods and have events such as movie day etc.

Greece will not allow the opening of Albanian schools, “Albanian economic migrants in Greece are entitled to cultural rights. We did not invite them to Greece, they are economic migrants. The opening up of Albanian schools in Greece will be very difficult. Hellenic Republic

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE TITLE OF THE THREAD IS "ALBANIAN LANGUAGE IN GREEK SCHOOLS."
Somewhere you lost your head here Teuta. Here in the United States we do not have Greek language in AMERICAN schools.
Yes there are Greek schools here in the United States. They are ALL I STRESS THE WORD "ALL" FUNDED BY GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCHES, DONATIONS AND THE MONEY RAISED THROUGH CHURCH EVENTS. Many Greeks came to the United States and shortened their last names, learned the language and assimilated for the most part but still hold onto their ethnic heritage. I don't understand what it is you are asking from Greece here? Are you asking Greek taxpayers or the Greek government to teach your children Albanian in Greek schools? TELL ALBANIA TO PAY FOR IT.

It’s cheaper and more practical if they went to the Albanian schools over at Albania to learn there, since it’s just a bus ticket away. Problem solved .

And who invited Greeks in USA or other countries? They have their school!!! I kind of resent that statement above. Greeks were just another one of the ethnic groups that helped to build America and make it a great place. GREEKS CONTRIBUTED TREMENDOUSLY TO AMERICAN AND WESTERN CULTURE ALIKE. America was lucky and remains lucky to have Greeks. Greek Americans are also some of the most patriotic Americans out there.
