* Blazevic wants to avoid native Croatia in possible playoff * Celebrations unite fans in ethnically divided country
By Maja Zuvela
SARAJEVO, April 2 (Reuters) - Bosnia's impressive World Cup qualifying double over Belgium left their Croatian coach Miroslav Blazevic in raptures and wanting to avoid his home country if the Balkan rivals reach the playoffs.
Their potentially explosive clash is a possibility as both teams occupy runners-up slots in their respective groups, with the eight best second-placed teams advancing to the playoffs for four berths in next year's finals.
"We are looking good for a playoff berth after demonstrating our class in this historic double win over Belgium," said Blazevic, who guided his native Croatia to third place in the 1998 World Cup. "I dread the possibility of playing my Croatia for a berth in the finals, I wouldn't know what to feel because I would really have mixed emotions about it.
"I'd rather play Switzerland, which is also my home, but the most important thing is that we make the most of our good schedule and don't let this opportunity slip."
Bosnia are four points ahead of Turkey and six behind leaders Spain with four games to go in Group Five following their 4-2 and 2-1 wins over Belgium on Saturday and Wednesday. They are at home to Turkey on Sept. 9 and Spain on Oct. 14 in two of their remaining four qualifiers.
Croatia are three points clear of Ukraine in second place in Group Six and five behind leaders England.
MASS CELEBRATIONS
Bosnia's accomplishment triggered mass celebrations in Sarajevo and other cities as it brought the Muslims, Croats and Serbs together in a rare display of national pride in an ethnically divided country.
The three ethnic groups, embroiled in a bloody conflict in the 1990s when Bosnia emerged as an independent nation from the rubble of communist Yugoslavia, flocked the streets together to rejoice until the early hours of Thursday.
"Blazevic deserves a statue because he has made us love our country again," said a teenage girl in Sarajevo, where fans waved Bosnian flags from the car windows of a seemingly endless motorcade.
Many of them hailed their new national hero Edin Dzeko after the Wolfsburg striker scored three goals over both games including a double on Wednesday.
Bosnia's team includes players from all three ethnic groups and another fan said the squad should serve as "a model to Bosnian politicians in building a prosperous state." Blazevic seemed to echo his view.
"I was proud more than ever to hear the fans cheer in one voice Serb goalkeeper Nemanja Supic and myself," he said.
"Few teams can beat Belgium twice in (the space of) four days and that shows the team chemistry is fantastic." (Writing by Zoran Milosavljevic in Belgrade) www.guardian.co.uk/football/feedarticle/8435185

Yeah right. Where is any actual evidence that Serbs or Croats cheered for Bosnia?

I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Everyone loves a winner, and if BiH actually makes it to WC there will be huge celebration from BiH citizens, making it more united. I personally am glad if such thing occurs, therefore I cheer for BiH.

The victory over Turkey will probably make the serbo-croat minorities support the Bosnian team even more. Also the future victory over Croatia and Serbia will bring everyone closer but obviously not at the same time.

Not all Serbs are as narrow-minded as you.

I did not mean to sound harsh, but there are some Serbs in BiH that don't hate the country.

I personally am glad if such thing occurs, therefore I cheer for BiH. People in Republika Srpska really will not care (and this article is kind of misleading because I doubt there were celebrations in Republika Srpska after these victories). People there celebrated Serbia beating Romania in qualifications (and when the WC comes, that is who they will be cheering for). Nevertheless, I am happy for them. After winning, nothing makes Muslims and Croats happier than seeing Serbia lose. But I have a hard time thinking that way about this Bosnia team. They are underdogs, they are playing their hearts out, they are making people in a shitty country happy. It's hard to cheer against somebody like that. I hope they make it.

Not really. I know a lot of people who cheer for the others just because they are from the same region. I know I cheered for Cro when they were playing against Germany and England.

Really, most Bosniaks don't give a shit if Serbs or Croats in Bosnia cheer for the country.
I think the facts are that the majority of Serbs and Croats cheer for Serbia and Croatia but I think BIH is kinda like the second team..I think a pretty good majority don't wish it harm..but its not #1.
Where I get annoyed is when Serbs and Croats tell us, do you really expect us to support BIH when all the fans come to the games with those turkish flags, muslim flags, liljani, etc (ie they are almost all muslim)
Simple reply: If you actually fought for Bosnia, instead of fighting for fake borders which you designed through ethnic cleansing, that wouldn't happen. Maybe you should live in Sarajevo. Maybe you should live in every part of BIH because Serbs come from all areas of BIH. Maybe you should give citizens rights.
This is not some magic act, kids. If I had Serb friends in Sarajevo, I wouldn't be bringing a Turkish flag to the game. The society reacts, acts, and functions, exactly as a result of what its people ask of it.

I just can't see Muslims and Croats cheering for Serbia if Serbia was, let's say, the only ex-Yugo team to participate in the World Cup. That was my point.

Haj zgembo svega ti... neću reći da navijam za Srbiju ali ko da vi skačete od sreće kada Bosna pobijedi. Što je i normalno, samo nemoj se praviti da smo mi i hrvati jedini.

the author of the article says that blazevic's native country is croatia, but it is actually bosnia. because he's a croat from bosnia, he doesnt want croatia to play bosnia , because he wants to see both teams qualify, and also that croatia is a very tough opponent.

If Bosnia is an ethnically divided land then does that make America a politically divided land?

Why would you bring a Turkish flag to any game exactly? Do Bosniaks actually do this? That's pretty damn random.
