Well yes thats also a metabolism thing...pure dinarics will always be lean...pure alpines...always fat.....if you gain weight easily...its due to alpine influence...if you dont...a dinaric..personally Im sth inbetween...but believe it or not...Im rather on the dinaric side on this...when I was overweight some years ago...I was it because I ate masses on food...someone else would have become much fatter if he ate the masses on food I ate back then...as child I have been always lean...now...Im lean again...my fathers genes are fortunately not predominant...nevertheless I will have to take care on this...as long as Im living..

Its an absolutely hard one, l'm not sure, in all honestly she can pass for all three. I'm a bit of fan when l read yourself and Toski's debates here in the Anthro forum I have never seen an Albanian woman who looks like her. The nose, her facial bone sructure. Its very very alien to Albania. The only similarity she has is that there is a certain "Balkan aura" around her that links Balkan grannies together. Lol. I bet if I go to Greece, I could spot the Albanian born kid from the Greek ones from a mile away.. even if he was born in Greece as well as his parents. The only difference is that they have had better nutritioning while in Greece. An Albanian, who looks Albanians, will always look Albanian unless his children are mixed. Same with a Greek.

I agree with melty on what he said regarding albanian and greek looking people....the albanians that look Greek look Greek because they are simply born like that.

Im not blood related to any of them. Just family connections. Except for the Arab guy, just their friend. He looks similar to a Turkish Cypriot friend of mine:

The pic of him is a bit deceiving. Normally he doesnt look that eastern. He actually looks more Greek than Alb in other occassions.

Well, for Albanians, people who are on the whole dark-skinned are either:
1) Turks 2) Greeks.

Thats what fools me, could be the clothing, style etc....The arching eyebrows tend to be a common feature with women in my dads side of the family (older generations) like with the granny above.
I'm not sure whether there is a borreby strain with the Granny, as the face seems more longer than the general alpine prototype.

^ Kastor would have the answer to this, but your mum does have a more central look, as l remember your granny (your mums mum) had dark hair etc...and a different facial structural, l've got the feeling your mum takes after your grandpa?

Exactly! ThaT'S why I say...BS. I went to an Albanian festival a month ago and what I saw was a whole lot of 'Greek' looking albs w/ some sprinkled tri-faces, extended eared albs. It's not an 'accident' that 50% of you are dark as it's not an accident that 50% of greeks are dark. Caucasian people have a huge variation. The ONLY race that has the fewest are asian people. This is a fact.
It pisses me off that some of you (this goes to you also kastor) label dark albanians as greek, turk or gypsy and light greeks as slavic or albanian.
Another thing....american albs are getting FAT too! I have seen it with my own eyes so no cherry picking photos are going to convince me otherwise. Only mesomorph body types tend not to get as fat and this body type IS NOT associated with dinarics. This body type is also NOT associated w a small and skinny frame. I have this body type...muscular and I am NOT dinaric or skinny.

Albanians are, on average, more akin to Yugoslavs racially and thus are on the whole lighter than Greeks. There are plenty of dark Albanians, I have them in my family, but they are so rare that I have seen them endure name-calling constantly by other Albs for being of a darker tone. You live near Albanians who emigrated largely from Korca. Well, Korca is a city that has a mixed population in terms of racial characteristics. There are plenty of Albs I have seen from that city who view themselves as 100% Albanian but racially are completely outside the Alb norm... like my father. There are a largely number of Greco-Alpines in that area as well as in a number of spots in the south where mixing seems to have happened.
Vangjel Toqe is a good example:
or Vaske Curri:
These people tend to gain weight faster than Albanians further north.

Ill add one thing. The very fact that one of the unhealthiest parts of Albania is where Albanians mixed more with Greeks is proof enough I think that mixing with Greeks can prove dangerous for your children. If there is one group of people its better to stick with, its definitely Yugoslavs. Pyrros made a good decision.

Race is not ethnicity, nor genetics. There are certain zones in Albania that have alpine types, but most of these people see thmselves as Albanians nonetheless. Nobody would even know what Alpine or Dinaric is. But I know plenty from your beloved Himara who have a pure Dinaric type and look like Kosovars. I remember I saw one when In Qeparo. He was tall, skinny and large ears yet claimed he was Greek.
Greeks on average look quite overweight.

They might be overweight but the average Greek can buy and sell the average albanian.
