Croatians will vote on Dec. 27 to elect a new president. The winner will replace President Stipe Mesic, who has served a maximum of two terms as the country's third president since it gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. The presidency is largely a ceremonial post, but it also serves as commander in chief of the country's military. Mesic has been credited with steering Croatia toward the West. Dozens of candidates have announced they will run for president, including the son of the late nationalist President Franjo Tudjman, who died in 1999; a member of the nation's largest opposition party; and the leader of the Commerce Chamber. Key issues will include the fight against corruption and Croatia's bid to join the European Union. www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5j98v3TkuHsXucPrDBi_qoyAuE94wD9BLGGTG1

lol cikola, doesn't leave many other candidates to choose from ! Politika je kurvaluk kod nas MiG; jer obicni ljudi su kurvaluke isto (if thats even a word). SO they are a representation of the people...simple really. You can't change kurvaluk mentality of a whole nation overnight.

^ True to an extent, but how can the people choose if the ones who mean good to the nation are always and constantly sacked, and branded bad titles? I want a leader who knows how to say "Enough is Enough" and flip everyone off. Edit: Kurve would have been fine, as Kurvaluke isn't a word lol.

^Well it's because the majority kurvaluke :-) keep on supporting the BIG kurvaluke...and the smaller ones against the kurvaluke as a whole are always pushed out as you mentioned. I have even experience this in the Croatian community abroad. Best policy is to keep away from it; and when then they come crying to us for help or money ja se ne dam...there's only so many times you let people use you. Simple.

I understand what you are saying Mig.
But I am certain if someone that does come into power that will stand up to the outside world, take care of his own citizens no matter what then we will all get branded as Nazi's, hardliners etc.....
Unfortunatley I can not see anyone being elected at this stage that will work for the people, of the people and by the people.
That time for me seemed to die a long time ago at home. Actually I think things have really changed from Dec 10 1999. And I dont mean for the better either.

The best possible candidate will be picked only if people from the diaspora don't get to vote. Until then, HDZ stays in power.

The best possible candidate will be picked only if people from the diaspora don't get to vote. Until then, HDZ stays in power. If the people from diaspora didn't vote only leftist parties would win, do we want komunjare in power? The diaspora votes are more important than you think.

Do we want HDZ (HNS, same thing) in power for another 5 years? Think again. The majority of diaspora is a nationalist, right-wing, Christian fundamentalist, racist f**king lunacy. Do we want these people voting? Think again. Let's pretend that most of them are not f**ktards. What the f**k do they know about RH? Do they know the current issues, politics, economic situtation?? No they don't. All they are voting for is a person with similar bias.
And why not put SDP in power? They are not communists! They are social-democrats. I mean, how much worse can they do? Social-democrats are doing a fine job in Sweden, why not have some of those policies affect us in RH?

^You should't judge man, most people who bother to vote are connected back home with politics and families. So I would assume the majority know more than what you think!

No, they can't, it's impossible. If you don't live in a country there's no way you can know its current situation. You may have an idea, but in truth, you don't know unless you live there.

Ok then we will stop the open world as we know it, stop all cross cultural understandings, STOP migrations and let countries just be. We will close countries up again so they can only rely on themselves and what their people can offer and what their lands can produce. We won't let any foreign peoples/money/or power to come into our nations/and especially not to invest because they just don't understand it do they? If this was the reality, then Croatia would be nothing. In fact most countries on this earth would amount to nothing.
A little bit of understanding...less talk and more action. That's the way forward.
So who WILL win the election?

1. When did I mention migration. 2. When did I mention self-sufficiency? 3. When did I mention investments? 4. When did I mention (blank) x50 WTF are you talking about? I was talking about voting rights of people living and born abroad. Seriously, I forget how crazy you are sometimes.

What does the diaspora know about RH?
Well I know that according to the Croatian Constitution all Croats no matter where they are located have the same rights under the constitution. ie. the right to vote.
