Most of the discussions here involve politics ,,, there was quite some time ago when we discussed health and workout, thought about restarting the discussion, are you keeping up with your workout, what type of workout, eating healthy? For me alot of the training has involved lifting weights, but i've become more and more interested in building up my cardio. There is this new thing I have "discovered" called pulse training (I am doing a direct translation from Swedish, dont know the real english term). I am trying to lower my "resting pulse" (again, doing a translation from Swedish "vilopuls") ,,, basically, this is your pulse/or heart rate in 60 seconds. To be in a normal shape, your pulse should beat 60 times/minute ,,, if you're in a more excellent shape, it should be around 50. Alot of professional athletes have as low as 30-40/minue. The average in Sweden is 70-75, i would guess in the US it is higher (i.e. worse). Last time I checked, mine was 60/minute, or just slightly below, though i measured during the day ,,, they say the best time tomeasure is when you wake up in the morning, at which point the body is totally relaxed. I have gotten fascinated with human cardio; when in shape, this was our main advantage in nature, besides our brain of course. In terms of strength, we got nothing on wild animals. Nor do we have thick skins to protect from bite or fast speed to run away. But we have endurance ,,, when we were gatherer-hunters, our ancestors sported persistence hunting, which still occurs in Africa. Basically these hunters will chase their prey, let's say an antilope, for 2 to 5 hrs, running perhaps up to 35 km in temperatures of 40 to 42 °C (104 to 108 °F) ... this is absolutely amazing. Read; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistence_hunting

The only exercise I do is walking and play soccer and basketball. I absolutely hate running, although I enjoy every time I get on a treadmill or running on the promenade in front of my building. The one exercise/activity I'd be interested in if I had the time would be capoeira.

I think the best way to build your cardio is slow long runs. This has worked very well for me I do 5km every day in 20 minuts and every sunday i do 10km under 45 minuts. I never checked my heart rate but it took me over a year to come to this stage. Treadmills do not give you a good training there is nothing like hitting the pavment.

I usually weightlift with cardio on the side. Unfortunately I lost my Ipod so until I can afford a new one: no cardio, I cant stand either running or walking without some music... gotten conditioned to it.

Running is boring indeed, unless you have music to listen to. I dont know if it is scientifically proven, but they say you can perform at an average 25 per cent better if you listen to music when it comes to running ,,, which is probably correct in my case, I tend to forget how tired I am when I listen to good inspiring music.
Wow, 10km under 45 minutes is very good. I run the same length in about 55 minutes. An yeh, treadmills arent as fun. Besides, they also say it isnot so good for your knees in the long run, since the best is to run in nature where the ground is uneven and softer.
Same here. Initially I ran without music but then I started with music and realized I performed better. Now it's unthinkable to run without it ,,, you're constantly reminded of how tired you are ,,, with music, it's like "yes, I like this track, a little more ..."

I used to go to the gym about 4-5 times a week (cardio training) but I got really bored with it. Now, I just dance, walk A LOT (every day) and do some exercises at home to keep my body tight and toned. I swim occassionally, too, but that's only like...2-3 times a month...
I don't like women with muscly bodies so it's never been a priority for me to gain muscles. If I've ever done some weight lifting, it has not been a lot at all.
As far as diet goes...I just eat what I like to eat, I'm not obsessed about calories. But I'm not into grease, fat, meats, processed foods and heavy foods, so I'd say what I like to eat is pretty healthy. I could probably cut down on the bread and the ice cream but...I don't want to. They're my only vices...

Oh, I took a body age test before I found out I was pregnant. I got a great result from it, it said that my body age is 18...very happy about that .

btw, Donnie, have you ever looked into P90x? I do the ab workouts from the video which are intense. The whole thing is pretty sick for complete toning. I downloaded the set of videos from torrents.

I haven't been exercising in a while since I've been so caught up with exams. But I usually like to do 15-20 minutes of H.I.I.T. followed by some weight lifting.

A body age test is a health test that determines what age your body physically is and functions like. This test takes about 45 minutes to do, and it includes fat procent and blood pressure meassurements, strength tests, endurance tests (respiration meassurements included), cardio workout tests and flexibility tests.
I'm 23, so having a body age test that says I should be 18 is pretty good, I think...

Havent heard of it actually, i will check it out. Does it involve cardio of some sort, making you break a sweat? Because alot of those programs are BS really, like pilates. They claim you can get abs by doing their workout, but basically, you will never have visible/toned abs unless you do some sort of cardio (which doesnt just involve running, there are various ways to train cardio, including that ofthe upper-body). Simply doing situps wont cut it, because the abs are too small as a muscle group to make your body burn fat, unlike your leg muscles which are used in cardio. Basically, doing things like the pilates, will strengthen your abs and core area, but never give you that toned look, because the fat layer above will not go away unless you do cardio.

have never of P90x too.
And yes you're right donnie. If you want abs,you got to lose the belly fat first.I mean, you can do the ab workouts but they wont show or they will take a long long time to show.
It seems like you guys are fitness buffs.

I train because it makes me feel healthy and strong. It is important to stay as active as possible in our days, because our sedentary lifestyle coupled with the food we eat is a dangerous trap. And when I speak of being fit, I am mean being all-round fit, to be in great shape and not a meat-head who can bench press 140kg but breathes heavy after a few metres of running.
A video of persistence hunting, this is how our ancestors back in the day would hunt their prey;
