I suppose Albania and Kosovo aren't considered part of Europe hence the lack of data...

Slovakia has 500,000 Gypsies? Are they sure? Because Slovakia has 5 million people.I cant believe that the Gypsies make up a large percentage of the population.

Three years ago I spent several days in North eastern Slovakia, the region of Tatra mountains. It was full of gypsies - the local told me that the Romas are no less than 40-50% - including the population of some big cities above 50k. like Preshov and Poprad. I was also told that the average birthrate of the gypsies there is 15-20 children per family.

According to the map then Gypsies represent
- ~10% of the population in Bulgaria, R.M., Romania and Slovakia - ~ 6 % of the population in Hungary and Serbia

I think Albania's gypsies could estimate at maybe 1% of the population or so I think. There is no official data on Gypsies in Albania though
Serbia also took in a large portion of the Kosovo Gypsy population after the war

1% would be about 70,000-80,000. They are mostly located in the area around Tirana and Durres.

Vizier, no data about Turkey? You are not in Europe or what? No gypsies in your marvelous country? To hell with gypsies, I hope they all go somewhere else, wherever this place might be. Australia is the best option, they will encounter their brother Pazar.

That number is very very significant. They are a major group in Slovakia. If that figure is true, they may take over Slovakia one day.Slovakia may be the Romas. How is intermarriage there? Is it rare? How is race relations?

I think intermarriage is very seldom. There are some pretty big differences among the Slovaks and Roma, which will almost certainly cause a pure culture clash. But still, you never know..

According to Der Spiegel, Turkey is not in Europe along with Kosova and Albania. ;D There are about 500.000 Turkish Romas as far as I know.

How is race relations? I had the chance to travel all over Slovakia and think that most of those 500k. gypsies are concentrated in the very area I described in the previous post, haven't seen any gypsies in the capital or other regions. Well, my impression was that the segregation between the gypsy majority and the Slovak minority was complete - it was some kind of an appartaid - no social interactions at all. Having spoken only to Slovaks, I cannot provide the Romas' point of view. The Slovaks were horrified - I think they both hated and were afraid of the gypsies. It was something like in Bulgaria, but on a lot larger scale. I don't blame them - I know what is to have 5-10% gypsies - they are very hard to control, and their gypsies are perhaps more than 50% - all unemployed, relying on social aid, stealing everything they can get and having an average of more than 10 children per family. If it was a glimpse into the future, it is not very promising.

oh my god! That looks very bleak indeed.
It's horrible.I think it's crazy that they are having up to 10 kids per family. It seems that they like stress and non-stop "work"(raising kids is work).
I guess for me,it's understandable on why they're hated so much.
I've heard that in Czech Republic, the goverment sterilizes Gypsy women.
